Quote from a Sina news article, 10/8/05:

"Baker was reported to be talking to his agent, Jack Daniels, about possibly signing on with another team."

When he arrived, I was excited to see flashes of his past.

It never happened. He is clearly not NBA material anymore.

Not really. Usually see a no-talent expiring contract traded for a multi-year not-working-here-or-maybe-ever type player.

at some point you have to stop tinkering and let the team settle. I think the message is that CD and JVG feel this is the team they want to go with... i.e. Ward is now a coach, Vinny is released, we're going to war with this group !

Not true. I can't think of single expiring contract deal in recent memory which was made for any other reason but cap relief. Brandon for Sprewell, Person for Bonzi, garbage for Jamison, McDyess for Marbury, the list is endless.

It never hurts to have some options at the deadline if an opportunity presented itself. I would guess that the reason this was done was because Dawson and company felt that whoever they could have potentially acquired at the deadline could not make enough of an impact to justify the increase in team salary plus wasting a spot given to Baxter or Glover or whoever.

I think the fact that we'll be taking on an additional 4 years of $5mill/per with the Alston trade played a big part in this.

That dude was depressing to look at on the bench.

He had to go, for chemistry's sake.

Hard to believe this guy is a former All Star and won a gold medal on the 2000 Dream Team. How the mighty have fallen.

Alcoholism is not something to joke about. You obviously saw how it affected his game. I hope he stays out of the bottle, for his health's sake and for his family.

Alcoholism can be a very sad thing to experience.

Poor guy? He makes more money in a year, than most of us will ever have in our entire lives. Not to mention, that he made it playing a freaking game. There's billions of people that i feel more sorry for than Mr. Baker. But that's just me.

None of that means that it won't be tough on him, possibly exacerbated by his disease.
