The Resistance 2 stuff got me interested in the following site: http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.com/ I was somewhat familiar with "surfer girl," but I didn't really pay that much attention to "her." She basically posts a bunch of rumors on videos games (or even other subjects). Apparently, a lot of them are true too (or at least partly true). I can dig up some links, but I'm pretty confident that she does indeed have some inside sources (although she's not 100% correct, especially when she's given incorrect info). A semi-recent blog post on her site actually revisits some of these things that she got right. I thought it would be interesting to follow the rumors on her site here, along with any other rumors that people might want to discuss. I won't list all the rumors she's listed, but here are the most recent ones: And in the comments sections to this post (edited for readability):
i've been reading that 2k sports stopped their deal with the CLC for rights to logos and what not, basically quitting that series. you been following that at all RC?
That's true: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3165418 Still a rumor regarding whether EA was involved though (AFAIK anyway).
The Bioshock to PS3 rumors won't die. Fueled more recently by this little bit on the"careers" page on 2K Boston's website. "UE3, PS3 and production experience using Python or Ruby will be highly regarded." Bioshock was built with the Unreal Engine so it would seem they are looking for programmers that can use the engine on the ps3... Bioshock 2 seems like the more likely of the 2 to see light on the PS3 but I suppose you never know.
The BioShock situation reminds me so much of Oblivion (seems like the situations are/were handled in the same way), although that won't necessarily mean it is coming (a new BioShock game is coming sooner than a new TES game, as you mentioned).
would you really be shocked if that were true? I'm shocked that EA hasn't paid for NBA exclusivity considering how much of a crapfest they put out everywhere with their live series as compared to the 2K series.
Of course not. They probably would be open to paying for NBA exclusivity, but the NBA doesn't want that AFAIK. Part of the problem isn't so much EA willing to pay for exclusivity, but these leagues for allowing it to occur. BTW, I believe surfer girl noted that Retro Studios is working on at least two games, one for the DS and one for the Wii. The second game is not a FPS (not sure about the first), and neither game involves Metroid.
I think EA tried to buy the NBA exclusive license but the NBA shot them down...thankfully! I'd die if I had to live with Live 08 as my only choice for a hoops game. College Hoops is a good game too and looks like that is done.
Well if someone approached you and was willing to pay you double, wouldn't you be tempted? it's good bsuiness sense for EA I suppose, but it doesn't exactly help the quality of games which always suffers when there is a lack of competition.
Live is the biggest piece of crap I have played. I don't know why I rent the game every single year. 2K8 this year is serisouly kicking my ass BTW, I have to know like plays and call different defenses to win some games!!
It's a shame they have these semi exclusive deals. ESPN 2K5 and MVP 05 were the best games in their respective sports to ever be released. My buddy and I played so many games at the polo grounds with the short foul lines and DEEP centerfield. The Franchise mode in 2K5 was fantastic and sure as hell beats the hell out of the mode in the latest Madden. I'm pretty sure I picked that game up for 20 bucks too.
EA/2K split the part of the NBA license that allows them to release "street" style type games. They must shift each year or something. Pray to god EA doesn't get NBA sim exclusive.
You got that mostly right, but 2K doesn't have a street series. EA and Midway (NBA Ballers) split the rights to the street series (with alternating years, as you said).
