Have you try using VLC, WMP, MPC(media player classic) or any other media player to play that file and getting the same result???

I have about 20+ of this movies files download for about over a year now. It had always worked fine with my old video card (which also used the hdmi port to my monitor) and I had just drag a couple of these movies (Mission Impossible III 8.5gb, Ironman 8.3gb) to my usb and took it to my parents house and it works fine.

Basically I'm downloading these converted Blu-ray movies (.mkv) files for a year now with codec like K-Lite and Real Alternative.

It has always work fine up until three days ago, when I decided to change out my video card to a new one. First time I install the the new video card the computer would reboot once I play a 4.5gb file ... and I was told it could be my 430watts PSU ... so today I bought a new one a 600watts PSU .... now it plays the 4.5gb movies fine ... but it'll reboot when I play the 8gb movies (same with Window media classic).

    I'm running Window XP

I'm confuse as to how come all the other computers can plays these files with no problem as my old setup too, but once I changed the video card is giving me this problem.

Are you running catalyst control center? I'm telling you, format and start over. The PSU isn't that big of a deal, it's more if you've cleaned out your system. Installing a new video player, VLC, etc. will not fix the problem. I don't know why other people here are offering that as a solution, it's asinine. System wipe, or check your version of catalytst control center. If you were able to play them before, it means plain and simply you're getting errors in processing now, not a power outage.

An easy indication of this is go Run>eventvwr

Look at the errors posted. They will answer all questions. If you're skeptical about formatting, put in another hard drive and reinstall the OS, see if that fixes the problem. It's not a software issue, it's not a hardware issue, it's a driver issue, I guarantee it.

Hmm, seems like it could be the video driver is your problem. Uninstall the driver. Go to safe mode and run drive sweeper. Reboot and install the latest driver. Also try going into your ATI control panel and see if there something that is obvious like video acceleration or whatever it is that should be check or unchecked. I have an Nvidia so I won't know what to look for an ATI control panel.

So you're suggesting the best way would be format my computer and re-install Window again and have a clean system? I dont mine doing that but just wanna see what other options there might be because I have alot of programs on my computer. I would be a hassle to try to reinstall everything again.

The funny thing is ... if I didnt have any of these 8gb movie files it would seem like my computer is working fine right now.

Did you make sure to uninstall your old video drivers?

When I upgraded to my 8800's I didn't uninstall the drivers completely and then do a complete new install instead of installing ontop of the old drivers. This caused it to reboot on me all the time during games.

It was VERY unstable. Turned out all I had to do was uninstall my old video drivers and install the new ones. BINGO, SLI running smoothly and beautifully.

Another way would be to go into installer and literally uninstall catalyst control center, reboot, and see if the driver persists. An uninstall never truely wipes everything, so by uninstalling everything you might not fix the problem!

That is horribly tiny by today's standards. It would not surprise me in the least if that is, indeed, your problem.

Have you tried any other GPU-flexing applications?
