    Question.

I heard some crazy noises in my computer. It was some buzzing sound. I was hoping it wasn't my hard drive. I actually have it open right now, while it's not running. Is that even a good idea?

The noise is coming from the fan of the video card. I just bought this card maybe two and half years ago. It sounds like someone revving a motorcycle every four or five seconds.

What's the best way of shutting this up other than buying a new one.

Does that make it a sound card?

great, i was messing with it, now its a steady motorcycle revving sound.

roxsqaud, it doesn't make it a sound card, it just makes it a pretty damn annoying video card.

sometimes dust/dirt build up on the fan, maybe try cleaning it with a can of air.

Yeah, I was thinking about that. I told the video card, that I have some money, and I'd dump her tomorrow.

That's when that ho knew to shut it up.

You are probably going to have to replace the fan, unfortunately.

When they get dirt and dust up in their interior, that is when they start making noise, and it is impossible to clean the nooks and crannies. You can try squirting some canned air up around the center housing of the fan, but I can't remember that ever working.

The vibrations make it inefficient at transporting air. As a result, your video card will progressively retain more heat if you do nothing about it. Excessive heat will cause the card to start freezing the computer.

The good news is that a replacement fan should be available at any computer parts store for $5-$10 bucks. Disassemble and bring the old fan with you so you can make sure to get an exactly equivalent replacement.

I have the same problem. I have an open case so whenever my video card starts that annoying noise I just tap the fan to set it back in place. The noise stops It's time for a new one anyway.

i hate when that crap happens. those effin cards can cost hundreds. i had the same problem with a video card i got years ago. the fan would actually stop running at times, then the heatsink would overheat and that would crash my pc so i just opened the case n put a small desk fan by it. getting a replacement fan is hard cause usually only the company that makes the cards have them. i remember sending a e-mail for a replacement n the company said they dont make my video cards any more so i was out of luck there. that video card wasn't cheat too. haven't bought one since. i'm just sticking with consoles now. much cheaper. :/
