So I've got a Sony Handycam and a firewire card in my computer. I've been using Sony Vegas to do some basic video editing, etc., but recently I've been getting some serious CPU spikes, making the video very choppy and I know I'm dropping a lot of frames. I was wondering if anyone had any particular suggestions for video capture software, preferably free, or perhaps any suggestions for how to get a cleaner capture. Any help would be great. Thanks guys.
Use WinDV to capture raw avi, and then import it into your editing software. WinDV is very basic, low CPU intensive, and tells you if you are dropping any frames while capturing. Oh, and its free.
