Yes it is dumb to get into shouting matches with strangers. But I don't get your understanding of saying it was the Old man's fault? He misheard, and asked the man to repeat what he said at the beginning. The black guy played the race card and got hostile.You are backed into a corner if the guy goes up to you and swings at you, that gives you the right to cave his face in.
That makes it more understandable. But a mentally stable person would not and should not have behaved the way he did.
You can't use that excuse if you're provoking the other guy with "Try it and I'll kick your ass" type comments.
I can guarantee that I will swing away if Im sitting on a bus and a stranger throws the first punch after an argument. Anyone who would think that theyd sit there and try to put an end to the confrontation in a calm manner is either r****ded or a p*ssy.
He wasn't a stranger. He was a guy you were willingly provoking for the prior two minutes. The argument itself is what was dumb.

I really cant believe youre putting as much blame on the old dude as you are. The man got up and went to the front of the bus while the black dude continued to talk crap. Meds or not, when someone is so provoking, its hard to not at least stand up for yourself and say something back. The black guy swung first, which IS backing him into a corner (Would you rather fight standing up, or sitting down?). If that hit would have connected and knocked the old man out, I'm guessing you would still say it was the old man's fault?
He walked away (the black guy told him to walk away) but continued talking. They were provoking eachother, so they were both at fault.
we all can't have your type of self control. the black guy obvoiusly escalated it with profanity and threats. "I'll put my foot in yo' ace". sounds like a threat to me. too bad we as tax payers most likely have to pay for the morons "amba lamps" and medical bills.

Umm, yes you can use that excuse. The older guy walked away. Sure he could have just closed his mouth and taken the verbal abuse, but sometimes you have to stand up for yourself. The old man gave the young guy an out by walking to the other end of the bus. One person and one person only initiated the action. That person is at fault and got the ass whipping he deserved. He'll think twice next time about acting all hard in front of his ghetto b****es. Actually I doubt he will. His remarks at the end prove he's too stupid and too much of a puss to do what the old guy did.....walk away.
