Can anyone recommend a dual VHS/DVD recorder.

Not just a player but would have the capability of converting VHS tapes to DVD.

I had a Sony dual player but you couldn't record the VHS tape over to DVD.

I can't recommend a specific one, but I have one. I have the VHS player with the DVD recorder, but the DVD broke. I bought another DVD Recorder (before I had DVR), and put all the 2010 World Cup games on DVD. I wasn't using the VHS player anymore, so I put it away. I now have a broken DVD player, but attach the VHS to the PC or to the other recorder and transfer that way.

I also can has the USB adapter that accepts the VHS RCA or Coaxial connections. It's good quality. I transferred my daughters' ultrasound movies on VHS with it. It's not bad.

Try one of those adapters. I bought it for $15 at Fry's a few months ago. It comes with "VHS to DVD" cheap software, but any video-editing software that can capture will let you bring the video feed into it.
