Hi, I am no basketball expert. But I think we are constantly killed by opponent's power forward. Can we trade for a veteran PF who are good at defense, and then at the same time let EG develop his game? Any suggestion? Dragon
Unless we decide not to play Taylor otherwise it will create jam at the PF spot like it did earlier in the season (when Thomas was here). Unless you trade away Taylor but I doubt if any team would want Taylor who make an average of 8 mils/year. So it look like we stuck with the situation and hopefully the players that we have will improve.
Exactly. We just traded away a PF to free up the logjam at the 4 spot and to give Griffen more PT to develop. Bringing a veteran in would set his development back. There's nothing better than on-the-court training to develop your skills.
I could be mistaken, but the Griffin looked very aggressive out there last night. Foul trouble limited his time, but IMO he was giving his all to the team.
hi You guys opinions are well taken. Here is the line of our opponent's PF in the last 5 losses: PLAYER POS MIN FGM-A 3PM-A FTM-A OFF REB AST STL BLK TO PF PTS T. Murphy F 39 8-14 0-0 7-7 1 10 0 0 0 0 5 23 O. Harrington F 19 0-3 0-0 2-2 3 8 0 0 0 2 4 2 K. Malone F 41 14-26 0-0 3-4 3 9 6 2 0 1 3 31 G. Trent F 35 6-10 0-0 0-0 5 13 3 1 1 1 3 12 E. Brand F 46 12-21 0-0 3-4 7 16 2 2 4 2 5 27 Actually i did not watch many nba games but I know there are many PF superstars in the league. What i mean is that can we find some cheap veteran PF who can just contribute in the defensive end (as we have enough scoring options). As i am new rockets fan, is Mo Taylor a good defensive player before his injury?
Hou PForwards last night - 16 pts, 13 rebs, 1 assist and 5 blocks I think our double headed monster did ok at PF last night. Lets keep them and give EG time to develop and Mo time to get back to 100%. They look good to me.
Mo T looks at about 70% and he looked better last night than he has in awhile still he and EG are a liability on most nights... So I would agree bringing in a better PF could help us immediately. The problem is where are you going to find a good PF that doesn't mind playing a role. I know some will argue that we already had that player in KT but KT was not a role player he wanted to start and he wanted to be the main go to guy and if he didn't get that he wasn't going to be happy in Houston... And truthfully even talent wise we have lost a little at the PF spot with the departure of KT but as a team I think we are playing better without him... So just be patient with our power forwards... I like the way Eg and Mo fit in our offensive scheme... and if they could just hit a few more shots and play a little bit better D we will fine at the PF spot and trading KT will have been the best thing we did this season...
After what I saw last night I want Troy Murphy. He loos like a much more aggressive and much more skilled Mo Taylor. He's got Mo's outside game and a great knack at coming up with the loose ball, plus he gets rebounds.
not really. compared to w.c. power forwards taylor is a decent scorer, but really horrible rebounder and avereage defender at best. at least eddie can play d and block shots. mo t is still playing far below the level he was at before his injury, so hopefully he can get it going soon. he will never be known as a defensive threat though.
Veteran PF's who might fit in the short term as role players could include Horace Grant or Grant Long to help with defense, rebounding. As a last resort the Rockets could pickup Chucky Brown.
I say we just let things stay as it is... A veteran pf will help in the short term, but if the goal is to get better with what we have, then just let eddie plays and get killed occasionally. it is sad to see how troy murphy blows by eddie while some people are suggesting to move eddie to play the 3... Anyway, this is just the growing pain eddie has to endure. furthermore, bringing in a veteran pf, who is at best mediocre but consistent, will just kill eddie's confidence, so no. Forget about it.
Reggie Slater was cut by the Wolves today. He could be a backup PF for the rest of the season when Griffin or Mo-T are having problems. He is short 6'7" and weighs 255 lbs but is a good banger around the basket.
I've said all along that the Rockets need an enforcer to watch YM's back. Someone who doesn't mind getting their elbows bloodied or doing the dirty work. I think the Rockets should look for a veteran (cough - Horace Grant - cough) that can backup EG, and provide some cheap fouls. This veteran would replace MT as backup PF, which means MT gets to warm the end of the bench, because right now that's where he deserves to be. If MT finds this unacceptable, then he can always tear up his overpriced contract ) I firmly believe the Rockets are lacking three things before they become legitimate post season threats. 1. backup veteran power forward for EG (enforcer type) 2. backup guard for SF/CM 3. instant offense type player that can come off bench as 6th man PS: the Rockets made a big mistake letting Kevin Willis go.
