According to Pete Vescey, the Grizz are dangling Reef to get caproom and stockpile first round picks. Well guess what we have: first round picks. A package would probably include Walt Williams and up to 3 first rounders. Going to RealGM to find a trade ------------------
Cato and Mobley for Reef. ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
Damn. You beat me to it. Walt and KT and 3 first rounders for Rahim. ------------------ The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?
Wouldn't it be great to get Shareef! He is still very young and as good as any small forward in the game! I just can't beleive that the Grizz would be so good to us to let us have two superstars in Wink and Shareef. But if its draft picks they want then we certainly have them. Could you imagine the bitterness that the Vancouver fans would have twords us for stealing Shareef and Wink! ------------------ [This message has been edited by crash5179 (edited December 30, 2000).]
Clear cap room? They already have an extremely nice nucleus with Dickerson, Bibby, Shareef, and Stromile Swift. Why break it up? Chances are that this cap room will only last for one year only. Who do they want to go after this summer? Chriss Webber? Yeah, right. Remember, Bibby and Dickerson both become free agents after the 2001-2002 season, which means that they will only have the 2001 summer to make something happen. That is, if they want to keep these players. Surely, they will command salary cap crushing salaries (and remember they will still have Bryant Reeves). The might just have enough, but there is obviously the risk that no one comes on board. Why not just keep Shareef? They won't find anyone better. To me, this is junk. No way the Grizzlies give up Shareef. That would be crazy. They finally have a nice group of players for the future (Swift is also being taken into account here) and they're giving it all away for the chance of getting someone just like Shareef? Doesn't make sense. ------------------ Nederland 2002 Rocketman95 on board. Check out his latest game recaps.
Thanks a lot, New Guy. When the Jamison "ordeal" was going on, I could barely sleep. Now I'm totally screwed. Seriously, Abdur-Rahim is an UNBELIEVABLE basketball player. If we can acquire him by trading anybody but Steve, I say we pull the trigger, if the deal is anywhere within reason. ------------------ Jazzkiller
If they want to clear some salary and retool a bit, then Big Country has to be moved also. We have been down this road several times already. Mango ------------------ Lets get the Mo Go working! Keep in mind, the deal, if something were to happen, could include Othella Harrington and/or Big Country. They are two guys the Grizz would possibly want taken off their hands if they plan to give up their best player ------------------
Yeah, I heard this on NBC about 30 mins ago and it totally flipped me out. If we can get Shareef, we'd pretty much be set for a long time at every position but center. Imagine: G- Francis G- Mobley F- Abdur-Rahim F- Taylor C- Olajuwon DAMN . . . gives me goosebumps I don't know what we can trade though . . . or what we have that Vancouver would want . . . other than Dream . . . hmmmm ------------------ "Any answer that can't be questioned is no answer at all. Veng, reread Mango's post... and then switch Dream at C w/ Reeves. Unfortunately, the Rockets then totally loose any opportunity to retain Mo... unless, (imagine me turning around like Vader when he sensed Obi-Wan). ------------------ You don't normally see a shot-blocker out there shooting 3s like that. - Matt Bullard
Langhi,Williams,Collier,Rogers for Rahim ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
I say anyone for Reef cept, Mo, Stevie, Cuttino,Shandon,Hakeem and Moochie. Mo I think is having a very good showing in Houston and will become one of the top forwards in the league right around the time Steve becomes THE top point in the league. Cuttino and Shandon is something you shouldn't mess with and Mooch? Who wants to trade Mooch?? As for Dream, I say we keep him because he can still be one of the top centers in the L. If we get Reef, we have a cold lineup......plus, I think we could get Othella back too. Ooohhh man I'm getting chills...... ------------------ Francis out top, 9 seconds on the clock, he gives a no look pass to Cuttino Mobley, 4 seconds left, Mobley passes to an open Langhi in the corner with 1 second left! Langhi at the buzzer.......YES!!! How Sweet It Is!!
We will still keep the caproom because most of the guys we'd be trading would have at least one more year on their contracts, considering only Hakeem and maybe Bullard along with Shandon and Mo have expiring contracts this summer ------------------
If they were to package Shareef with someone like Reeves, how in God's name would they find a team able to fit them both under the cap? Where could they find a team that have players that match up in terms of salary? Wouldn't trading someone like Dickerson or Bibby (packaged with Reeves) make more sense cap- wise? ------------------ Nederland 2002 Rocketman95 on board. Check out his latest game recaps.
It seems like the new owner is just going to Sterling this thing out until the NBA lets him move to the US... why else would you trade your best player that coincidentally takes up $10M/year? ------------------ You don't normally see a shot-blocker out there shooting 3s like that. - Matt Bullard
No, Ahmad Rashad just said "And Pete Vescey called from his home vacation and has told us that the Grizzlies have put Reef on the trade block because they want caproom and first round picks" ------------------
Is anything credible after that initial set-up? no fence, Newguy. ------------------ snap crackle pop
There are other things going on suggesting that this is legit... unless Sam Smith coincidentally was concerned about the Drew trade: Is this more than a coincidence? The Bulls are one of the few teams that could outright buy Shareef's services. Otherwise it's a trade for a guy w/ only a few years (or one) on his contract and multiple picks. ------------------ You don't normally see a shot-blocker out there shooting 3s like that. - Matt Bullard
I think you are reading too much into the article HEB, you pot stirrer you. ------------------ snap crackle pop
