The current Vegas odds for the Rockets to win the West are 14-1. We are currently 6th, behind:

    Lakers: 1 to 1
    Spurs: 7 to 2
    Mavs: 5 to 1
    Kings: 6 to 1
    Wolves: 7 to 1

The good news is that just a week ago, our odds were 20-1. I know this doesn't mean a whole lot, but I think it is a pretty decent indicator of where we stand. After all, the guys who set these lines are eerily accurate.

It will be interesting to see how this changes over the course of the season.

They don't know no nothing. That 14:1 is not low enough the way the other teams are playing at the moment

How about Rutgers football, 8-0-1 versus the odds this year. This is practically unheard of in the history of Las Vegas.

what you must remember about future odds is they are predicated on two things:
    1) the make up of the team and how well they play
    2) and probably the most important thing, because remember your'e dealing with a casino here, is the MONEY. how much of it is being bet on a particular team and sometimes, but very rarely, on who is making the bet.

I know this because I work at a LV sportsbook.
And books are not always accurate, they just happen to win on a consistent basis which make them SEEM accurate.
remember the most IMPORTANT thing about bookmaking is getting an equal amount of action on a game.Winning is still important mind you but if you have equal action it doesn't make the outcome of a game a life or death situation for the book.

there are times the book loses and then there are sometimes the book loses so badly that they get nervous about taking another bet no matter how small. It happens but don't let happen alot.

And just to let Sattle know, the books didn't pay out millions because the Marlins won. Believe me it would have been alot worse if da Cubs or Red Sox had won.

Being a Rocket fan since 1985 and wanting them to win as badly as I do, I have learned not bet on them because when they lose it's tough for me to take as is it is without losing my money in the process. My family and the Rockets are two things that I'm totally biased about and when it comes to working in a sportsbook you have to check your opinions at the door and watch the money.

the one thing I do have control over is making sure that the Rockets are on the big screen TV at work so everyone can watch the Rockets play with me whether they want to or not.

    Go Rockets!!

Where do you work? I was in Vegas two weeks ago and couldn't find a sports book to show the game. NY NY preempted the game with University of Louisville Football, and Mandalay Bay only showed the Lakers.

MGM has a lot of TVS and I think the Luxor or a hotel right next to it does as well. Plus they both have plenty of seating and a few hot chicks to check.
