Anyone know what are some good funds to invest in? or at least to look at? I am looking to max out yearly ($5K).
When I participated in the 401(k) at the job I had for over 10 years, they used Vanguard and I found the 500 fund to be decent. It is not an aggressive fund but is supposed to give you a decent return back. I also went with the Janus fund which is more aggressive but can give you a really good return.
Since Roth IRAs are designed as a retirement investment, I would suggest one of Vanguards's target date retirement funds: Vanguard Target Retirement 2025 Fund (VTTVX) Vanguard Target Retirement 2030 Fund (VTHRX) Vanguard Target Retirement 2035 Fund (VTTHX) Vanguard Target Retirement 2040 Fund (VFORX) Vanguard Target Retirement 2045 Fund (VTIVX) Vanguard Target Retirement 2050 Fund (VFIFX) See here.
Diversify yourself. And, it all depends on age. I'll assume you're young, 20's or 30's. Put at least 50% into global funds. Put about 60-70% into small/mid cap, 10% in bond funds, and the rest in large cap. Energy/natural resources will do well. Copper is a good area too. Just diversify.
