Here's a little twist to the Memphis trade suggestion.

    Houston sends Cato/Mobley/Moochie to Memphis.

    Memphis sends Person/Battier/Swift to Houston.

Person has a very high shooting percentage from the field(46%) & 3pt range(43%). His $7.7 million comes off the books at the end of the year also.

Person becomes our starting SG, Battier our SF, & Swift allows us to trade either Taylor or Griffin in a seperate trade. If that deal came off, would you consider trading Griffin for someone's #1 pick next year?

That would be GREAT for the Rockets.....

Steve Francis 36/Jason Mikiri or some veteran 12?
    Wesley Person 24/Eric Piatkowski 24
    Shane Battier 32/Glen Rice 16/Bostjan Nachbar 0
    Stromile Swift/Maurice Taylor/Eddie Griffin...move one of them
    Yao Ming 36/Stromile Swift 12

Person and Battier and Piatkowski and Rice would compliment Yao very well....along with Steve Francis. PERFECT!
Swift is the athletic guy that we could use......who Griffin could be....but Swift can't shoot.....but we wouldn't need him to.

That would be wonderful...especially with Person's AND Rice's contract expiring after.....

    Someone call CD!

If this happened, I would definitely give away Griffin if we didn't trade Taylor yet.......

Mobley is better than Battier, and Person is better than Moochie...and Cato is like Swift but bigger....so I think they would do it.

    Too bad....not gonna happen. :(

I'm not big on trading for a bunch of losing players from a losing team. If it were one or two of the teams better players then maybe. But we would be given up staters and main bench players for players a losing team dosen't want. Remember we had the better record and they are the desp. ones.

Griz are signing Poesy to be the starting 2 and they don't want to start Shane but we do?

Thomas is not good enough to play center in the centerless east and Ward is unwanted, agian on a lossing team yet we want to give up our two backup positions.

We want to upgrade in a trade not brake even or downgrade. Cato and Moochies contracts aren't killing us its the ones like Rices and MoT. Higher $ for subpar preformance. Cato's is high but every team has to overpay for centers, and Moch has a lenghty contract not a high $ per year. We could get a sf and pf to do what Rice and MoT have done for far less. If we make changes let them be for the better, not just for the sake of change.

Good deal Hottodie. However, we'd be stuck with Swift at backup C, and wouljd be loaded at the SF positions:

    Ming
    MoT/Griff/Swift
    Battier/Rice/Boki
    Person/Piatowski
    Francis/

A trade MUST follow to balance out the team. I'm thinking Rice for Ratliff and Dan Dickau? MoT for Ostertag and sign a veteran PG?

Okay, then how about this trade?

    Houston sends Cato/Mobley/Taylor/Moochie to Memphis.

    Memphis sends Person/Swift/Battier/Trybanski to Houston.
Memphis sends Brevin Knight to Seattle.

Seattle sends Jerome James to Houston.

I doubt that Memphis does the trade, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Maybe they would consider it if Seattle & the Rockets, each, threw in a future #1 pick. Anyway, our revamped lineup would be:

    C: Ming/James/Trybanski
    PF: Griffin/Swift
    SF: Battier/Rice/Nachbar
    SG: Person/Piatkowski
PG: Francis/FA (Mark Jackson, Rod Strickland, Travis Best, Tim Hardaway) Just to name a few. We should be able to sign any of these for the veteran's minimum.

Guys, Jerry West has already said that he is looking to add size, not trade it away. He is intent on keeping Swift, Gasol and Wright and wants to add another center by dealing either his salary cap relief, Person and Knight, or his overload at the swingman postions, Person and Battier. That being said, I think that we could get the Grizz to bite on Cato for Battier/Knight. Yes it leaves us without a back up center, but we get a solid starting 3 and a capable backup point who's contract expires at the end of the season, while West gets the center he craves. Yes, Swift would be nice, but it ain't gonna happen.

I would do it. I would love it. The Rockets really need a starting forward! But most likely, Glen Rice will be our starting small forward next season. :)

ROCKETFAN007, Cato for Battier/Knight...West should be able to get better deals than that. This would be great for us..........but wouldn't help Memphis much. And he will have an overload of big men if he adds....

Did you read all of my post? West has said that he is pleased with his depth on the current roster because he is two deep everywhere but at center, which he is looking for. He doesn't want to trade a big man for a big man because he then depletes the depth at PF, trading Swift. Trading Cato for Battier/Knight would help solve the log jam he currently has at 2/3 postion as well as making him two deep at center. How is Gasol, Swift, Wright, and Cato too many big men, two PFs and two Cs doesn't sound like an overload of big men to me.

I like the second one better for obvious reasons. However, like you said, Memphis would be reluctant. Tehy give up so much young talent in that deal, as well as an expiring contract of the best shooter in the league currently. Even though we are giving back some considerable talent, I don't think we're giving up enough.

I just read an article on how the Jazz are SERIOUSLY looking at trading cap space for a player, and I think we should send them Glen Rice, and pursue Odom or Rasheed Wallace before it's too late. To be honest, the best idea I've heard all summer is trading Mo Taylor and Kelvin Cato for Brian Grant, which would shave 2M off our salary, which would in turn allow us to-resign Posey comfortably.

    Yao/Grant
    Grant/Griffin
    Posey/Rice/Boki
    Mobley/Pike
    Francis/Moochie

Nothing would be stopping us from sending Rice out for capspace (although I'd rather keep him, because we need shooters and his contract would keep us out of luxury tax territory).

I would go to war with that team, and I can see them finishing 6th, 7th, or 8th in the West. But there's NO WAY that team doesn't comfortably make the playoffs.

What's great about the deal is that there are more shots since Grant doesn't shoot as much as Mo, and our F's would be the perfect compliments to our stars. Brian Grant and James Posey will grab every rebound, chase every loose ball, and harrass every major scorer for the whole 82-game season.

To me, it's beautiful. I absolutely LOVE this trade idea.

LOL. It's just beautiful! I agree...this would be a good trade for the Rockets as well...because it allows us to get Posey and we get replace Cato and Taylor and their big contracts with Grant.

But I think it's too late to match the Grizzlie's offer for Posey now.

Nope, we still have a few days. All this can be done in the same day. As soon as we complete the first trade, can immediate match the offer sheet.

That lineup would have to go down as one of the most unathletic groups in the history of the NBA:D

2 athletic players in that whole rotation(Franchise, Swift)

    Horrible

How in the hell is that considered a upgrade?????? Please tell me

    Last years lineup

    Ming
    Griffin
    Posey
    Mobes
    Franchise

    Your proposed lineup

    Ming
    MO
    Battier
    Person
    Franchise

I'm not the smartest guy, but that doesn't look like a upgrade to me.......

You're right, you're NOT the smartest guy because that isn't my trade, and I was just putting down what our team would be after the previous person's trade proposal. :) Honest mistake I guess.

Sane, like I said in a previous thread, I am on board with this trade idea as well. I think it would add a lot to the team. We would have a nice mix of blue collar workers, role players and star players as well as veterans playing key minutes in Grant and Pike.

Really wish we could do this deal!
