I'm a UT student, and I'm planning on moving into an apartment next year. I've already decided that I want to live west campus, but I was wondering if any of you Longhorns could tell me about some of these complexes I'm looking at...

    Littlefield House
    Croix Condos
    Wedgewood Condos
    Cornerstone Condos
    the Salado
    Old Main Condos

Any information you guys have for me would be great. Thanks!

Lots of traffic. Also, alot of homosexuals attend UT, so be careful.

Hyde Park is a bazillion times safer and quieter than West Campus. The further north you go, the better off you are. My advice, invest in a bike. Generally, landlords are a little sketchy in both areas, to be honest. Too much demand. They screw one tennant and ten more line up for a chance to pay rent 50 percent above market.

Personally, I was all about living away from the students. But that's just me. We had a house in N. Austin my last few years in Austin, and it was great.

go with cornerstone. i have a few friends that lived there. theyre pretty nice and right by cain and abels (although it sounds like youre not 21 yet), not to mention gumbys and pluckers. north campus is thankfully away from the frat scene. not so many collar popping fratty rednecks with dip running around and freshmen girls being obnoxiously loud at all hours of the night. north campus is more for older students and much more laid back. more house parties, not 100 people trying to cram into an apt and a 10 minute wait to get to the keg.

try west campus, but the rents are stupid high and most people grow out of it. the ones who dont... well i already covered them.

North Campus is much more quiet, generally cheaper, and a shorter walk to classes depending on your major.

Like 3 miles maybe? Short bus ride, easy bike ride.

I think "walking distance" is a romantic term. I'd rather take the bus.

tXhiggs- What these posters have said so far is pretty accurrate.
I lived in West Campus before and it is convienent (I could walk to my classes in less than 15 min). But for the price I paid we really didnt have much room. I now live off of Red River kinda close to the Hancock Center (H.E.B.) Me and my 2 friends have a house (3/2) with a backyard and garage and nice living room. It's a older house but rent is considerably cheaper. The only thing I had to get used to is catching the bus for class (Buses run frequently and the trip to campus is about 10 min) and also having to drive to parties and stuff (west campus, 6th street, etc.) But I like my current residence better because I have more room and pay less money.

first post. finally stopped lurking after 1 year.

he's got it right on. you'll get tired of living in west campus unless you love partying. you'll find that no matter where your friends are, you'll hang out with them if you really want to, even if you live in north campus.

btw, hyde park = north campus for what it's worth.

i live on duval st. (not duval rd.) and i love it. try looking for a house near the red river bus line or even the #7 capitol metro line. you get a nicer place without parking woes, it's quieter, and will save you traffic headaches.

I don't know any of the places that you named, but make sure that you're within walking distance of your classes. The West Campus bus gets jam packed in the morning's so you're much better off walking. Sometimes you even have to wait for the 3rd bus to come as the other two will just cruise by you.

My sophomore year in school (99-00) I lived at Rio Nueces at the corner of 26th and Rio Grande, which was okay since it was reasonably priced. My advice is that you should definitely do West Campus for at least one year, then move into North Campus or Far West as an upperclassman.

There's also a pretty nice property on 24th and San Gabriel called The Waterford. It was pretty pricey, though, I think $1600 for a 2 BR. Also, if you can afford it, Orangetree near frat row was the best one on WC.

I lived off of 45th and guadalupe while at UT...I loved the location..I was right next to the IM fields and took the IM field bus to RLM...I lived on riverside too, but didnt like it as much. I cant remember the name of the complex though, it has been a while

live in far west. it is nice, cheap, ad not dangerous.

When I lived in west campus I lived at Lantana. It was really old but we paid 1450 for a three and all the rooms were the same size.

The Salado? Is that dump still around? If thats the place behind the old Rio Grande convenient store, then I lived there for one year.

Place was a bit of a hole. But a cheaper alternative if you really wanted to live in West Campus. Things kept breaking and falling apart. But you were across the street from a convenient store. And if you walk through the castillion, not too far from a WC bus stop.

San Gabriel Condos at San Gabriel and 21st 1/2 St was a pretty good place for me. I also lived at Villa Vallarta at Longview and 24th. I would recommend the San Gabriel Condos, but Villa Vallarta has absolutely no insulation and it got ridiculously hot in the apt.

about a 10 minute bike ride down speedway. its really easy. the free shuttle also comes right through. i would live n. campus or hyde park, but never west campus. thats just me though - if your into the "college scene" and all the fratties than w. campus might be for you.

if north campus interests you than look around 34-35th street b/t duval and speedway - you should definately be able to find an efficency type deal for less than 500. my friend has a pretty nice efficeny w/ an actual "kitchen" area (seperated from the rest by a bar) and an actual bedroom area seperated by a large bookcase. he pays 460 - electric and gas paid.
