They shot poorly tonight. They need some post presence. Boozer's undersized. That might hurt them in the playoff, when opponent's D up and their jump shooting is off.
That's why it's always pointless to anoint a team as "the best" this early in the season. I still can't get it out of my head when the TNT headline a few years back was "NBA Finals Preview?" for a Seattle-Indiana game when those two teams started out hot out of the gate. For the most part, teams evolve to greatness gradually in the NBA. Dallas, San Antonio, Detroit, Phoenix, Houston- it usually takes a few years, unlike baseball and football these days where a team can come out of the blue (Seahawks, Tigers) to the championship round. At the end of the day, Denver will probably win the division, Utah will probably make the playoffs, and Utah will be exposed. But you never know.
There guys were bunch of lost children when they faced the gimmick zone Nelly put on them in the entire game. Look for a losing streak to ensue.
Until they adjust. Then teams will try another tactic to bog down their offense. That's what the NBA is all about and why people shouldn't be so hyped up about the Jazz' fast start.
**** man... all i hear about here in the utah is the jazz! ****! milsap is awesome. brewer is solid. deron williams is their key. when houston plays them again they need to stick our best defender on him all game (battier?). shut him down and their goes their team. they look deep, they look young, and they play smart. this is scary. on the flip side, the losses will come, but how will they deal with it? and can they win in a high pressure playoff atmosphere? we don't know... go rockets!
exile me if y'all want, but I would root for THIS Jazz team moreso than the one from the previous era. But that's like saying 2 is greater than 0 so *shrug*
Yeah, the Jazz is sovled. Throw the semi-zone at them, they are a long range jump shooting team. The only guy that can get to the rim is Boozer who is undersized too.
Don't dig their grave yet. You don't win championships in November but 12-3 is still very good. Sloan will figure something out to get them going and they will do well. But it's unlikely they are in the same class as the Mavs and Spurs. The bigger surprise is the Magic sit at 11-4 with their 4th win in a row. They could be sitting at 13-4 in a couple of games. The same November concept applies to them but it's conceivable they are an EC contender if Grant Hill stays healthy all year.
Not to forget that Howard was a beast on the boards against a very good rebounding team in the Jazz. 21/16 while going 13-16 from the line...
Jazz just got owned by Minnesota... At least they scored against them. Great and now Minny wil get AI , someone else to complain about in teh West
well... didn't know who to go for in this game. win/win situation. anyhoo, looks like the jazz are real. jazz up by 25 on mavs. we'll be second in our division in less than a hour.
Congrats to Jerry Sloan for his 1000th wins. Sloan really deserves it. It's amazing to see how well his team defend against the Mavs with the playas he gets. Mavs have a recent trend to go off in 1st qtr for 30+ pts or more for a double digits lead and its opponents never rocover. To hold the Mavs under 20 pts in 1st and 4th qtr is a real accomplishment. These Jazz are for real.
I have been watching a lot of their games, and even though Carlos Boozer is playing well, their improvement is mostly because of Deron Williams, the PG from Illinios. He is playing INCREDIBLY well and managing the game for them......he is really good. DD
