FWIW, this is why I'm so opposed to Franklin. I don't think his achievements are particularly impressive when you look at the reality of the teams he's beaten.

    http://espn.go.com/college-football...oops-oklahoma-sooners-continues-criticism-sec

After Oklahoma toppled Alabama in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Thursday, Sooners coach Bob Stoops said he wouldn't have to "dodge any more punches" for suggesting in the offseason that the SEC being the best league in college football was "propaganda."

Speaking on ESPN Radio's "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" on Friday, Stoops elaborated on those critical comments.

"When I made the comment, the bottom half of the SEC was like zero-and-36 against the top half of the SEC. You realize that? A year ago … nobody talks about that. My point was, don't say SEC like they're all doing that [beating everyone]. One or two or three top teams … sure, you give them the credit. Alabama … I've got the utmost respect for them. Are you kidding me? How could you not? But in the end, don't talk about the entire conference that way. It's just not true.

Miami is Broke as hell. Plus, I don't see Strong jumping ship for an in conference broke program. I'm going Strong 85% and John Harbaugh 10%.

I was listening to the radio the yesterday in Dallas and Norm Hitzges was saying that Franklin actually really likes all the things that come with being a coach at a college like UT. He apparently really likes all the PR stuff and rubbing elbows with the regents.

On top of that the guy is 41 so he has a good 2 decades in front of him if he is successful. On top of that I'm not sure UT want's to be seen as having to steal from Baylor or some other top ranked college to save the mighty UT program. I'm not saying it's right but there is a certain amount of arrogance and a lot of ego's in Austin that might have a hard time swallowing that one. Like you said earlier, the only confirmed meeting was with Strong and Franklin.

Franklin is a young high energy coach that has shown he can win with lesser talent. He took over a team that had won a total of 33 games during the previous 10 seasons and won 23 in 3 seasons.

In the previous 10 seasons that team had a total of 13 SEC victories. In the 3 seasons that Franklin has coached the team he has 11 SEC victories.

Fwiw Louisville is in the AAC, not ACC. Miami is definitely a higher profile job and strong has experience in florida

I understand the sentiment, but I don't think this is as difficult as people make it out to be. It's like being impressed by a TCU or Baylor coach that got them to 7-5 every year. What makes Briles and Patterson good coaches is not taking TCU or Baylor from the bottom of the barrel - it's that they took them to the top. Franklin may be able to do that, but I don't think anything he's done shows that capability as of yet.

Of those 11 SEC victories, I think only 1 was against a bowl eligible team (Georgia this year). There's a big collection of bottom-of-the-barrel terrible SEC teams just like Vandy (with better names). He was 4-4 in the SEC this year. There were 4 non-bowl-eligible teams in the conference and he beat 3 of them. All he's done *so far* is make his team better than those guys. Hopefully, if he becomes the UT coach, he has the ability to take the next step too.

Don't know terribly much about Strong or Franklin, but I'd have to say I prefer Strong by a lot. 1) Loved the way Strong's staff developed Bridgewater from a 3 star recruit to the possible #1 pick in the draft. When's the last time Texas actually developed a QB? Look at Case McCoy's mechanics - yikes! 2) Strong comes from the defensive side and has big time cred from his time with Florida. Wasn't he the DC that held Bradford's Sooners to fewer than 20 points in the 2008-2009 Nat'l Championship? 3) Franklin's achievements don't impress me that much........

Winston should thank Jebus everyday that Mack didn't call him back. He'd be the 3rd stringer this year and wouldn't have seen the field.

If Vandy gets spanked by Houston tomorrow, Jimmy Franklin ain't hookin' nobody.

Yeah you're right my mistake. But the fact remains that strong is a football coach at a basketball school. Miami is a better program

Honestly, I don't think so. The last ten years, those tables have turned drastically. Facilities, donors, attendance. U of L beats Miami hands down in each category. Miami's best advantage was always its conference affiliation, but now that's gone. The best thing Miami has going for it now is market size and recruiting grounds. Substantial plusses, but in terms of program quality, U of L beats Miami pretty handily right now.

I'm hoping this happens. And given Vandy's quality of wins, I wouldn't be surprised at all.

I'm thinking it's one of the big names tbh.

I can't see UT picking Strong over Briles. If UT wanted Briles, they would have had him.

Your right he hasn't proven he can do it at a major or take a team to the top. Vandi is just a jumping off point. If you want a proven coach like Saban then UT is going to have to back the money truck up to the guys house to get him. They can do it but do the want to do it?

Franklin or even Strong represent a gamble but each has offered reasons to believe. Neither has proven they can do it but both coaches IMO have done enough to be given a chance.

If we get Saban some dominoes will fall. Things will get interesting. Fisher to Bama? Strong to FSU? This is pretty exciting

Bridgewater was a rivals 4 star and one of the top dual-threat recruits.
