I have a bunch of folx don't seem to think anything
about using their neighbor's wireless signals

So . . .. Do you consider it 'wrong' to do so?

They are the ones sending a signal into YOUR house.

I view not securing your wireless network as an open invitation.

Granted I have my own secured wireless network, so I never have a reason to try to use the neighbors'.

I had set up the wireless in my house with a password protected of course. Two days after I installed it, my neighbor from across the street came running over asking what the password was. Leechers man.

I am with you on that one. While I would be pissed if someone was stealing mine I also secure it. I have to admit after recently moving house I had 3-4 days while I was waiting for the net to get switched on here that I used an unsecured wireless I picked up.... I didn't download and tried not to use it too much but hey...... had to have my net fix!

I have mine open, but I don't have anyone living in the immediate area who can leech off of mine. I have caught one guy parked behind my house leeching my internet as i was leaving.... which I promptly went back inside and unplugged my modem. I really don't care if anyone borrows it briefly as long as they don't file share, do anything illegal, or impede my connection while im using the internet.

I'm not the kind of person to say no unless I really hate the person, so I gave her the password, but after a few weeks I changed the router , so now she can't use it so its all good.

If they are dumb enough to have an unsecured wireless connection, then they deserve to have people leech off of it...

Wasn't there a case where a man was arrested for sitting outside someone's house stealing their wifi? (This is probably the extreme any of us would go to get free internet though...)

Anyways, I think no harm, no foul because most of the internet connections you get from others (esp. if you live in a house) isn't always the best - it's almost always more worthwhile to get your own internet... but if you can find a good source, then why not.

I must admit. I am a bit surprised.

I expect more folx to be . . . of the mind that it was like Downloading Music.
You are access/using something you did not pay for.

While I don't care one way or the other about folx using my wireless
    [though mine is secured]
I can see the logic of comparing it to other such 'theft of services' type things

    You mean this is wrong?

    ;)

I have neighbors who don't secure theirs... but they are older and probably don't know how.

Mine is secured but doesn't broadcast very far anyway.

Deserve it is winning? I don't secure my network because I flat out don't care.
