This is certainly deserving of its own thread already. The other one is no longer even slightly about the Mexico result.

So on in the wee Hours of Friday June 21st at 6:25 AM central time, 7:25AM for us in the East one of the world most powerfull football nations will square off against a relative newcomer. can david slay Goliath?? check out ESPN 2 for the match.

If you havnt enlisted already, Join Sam's Army. Lets Beat those Germans.

hey?? do we get the Rhineland if you loose this time??

I have to say I doubt the US will win but better to play the Germans (or Italy) than say Brazil or Spain or England IMO. The US has been great about finishing their chances and better in the midfield and defense than I have ever seen them (except maybe 94, except then they just bunkered the whole team in and hoped for scoring on free kicks and the like).

I'll say US 2, Germany 1, but I actually think the score will be the reverse. We definetly could win with a little luck. We did score 3 legit goals on Portugal and 2 legit goals on Mexico, and remember Mexico dominanted Italy only to let Italy tie late. Also, throw out Germany's game against this year's tourney creampuff and they have scored an underwelming 4 goals in 3 game. I am expecting a 1 goal difference in US-Germany.

VOR: The game's been moved to ESPN. I think they've done that with most (all?) of the remaining games.

Here are my current thoughts on the game:
    1. If the US wins, they'll be in the semifinals.
    2. Therefore, by reductio ad absurdem, Germany will win.
[/list=1](I composed the above before reading DS's post, which cheered me up a bit. I voted for a Germany win, but I wouldn't bet on it.)

Interesting, when Agoos doesn't play, we get our first shutout. Let's hope he stays on the bench, Berhalter is a more than adequate replacement.

I hope Beasley and Donovan play, I think they can give the Germans problems. Just hope they don't get too close to Khan in the penalty area, he might break them in half.

I'm sure the Germans will try and physically intimidate us, but I don't think it'll work.

This will be a close one. We have nothing to lose and no pressure.

Man,...the atmosphere here (Korea) is crazy...I hope Korea and US both win out, and end up meeting each other again...great game for the US...
I wasn't a soccer fan before, but it's hard to resist the hype...

I think the US has a serious shot at beating Germany...Personally, I think it will go into overtime. This is not the same US team that got beat by Germany 4-2 before the World Cup.

I think it is fair to say that at this point Donavan is part of the lineup. He will play and will likely start. Arena way give Mathis the nod however as he did show well in that aforementioned 4-2 loss.
Here is my Mathis consperacy theory. Uncle Phil (the owner of 1/2 of Americas professional soccer league MLS) dosnt want Mathis to have the chance to have a blow up cup and sign to a Euro team. he plans on keeping him. he told Arena to use him sparringly. Mathisa is cool with this because im sure he now has a bunch of United artists stock, a Union Pacific train, and a middle management job at Quest for his part in helping MLS. Stewert will come home next season as will Reyna in 2. yes i am crazy i know, but well it makes some sense.

The germans will give the SHORT defenders fits on friday much like those tall polish trees did(Klos was the devil). this is why Mathis is a great weapon for us. This will not be a great game for my nerves, but this could cement Brad Friedel as the best Keeper at the cup. surely one of the best in the world (this month anyway)
still cant make a prediction yet, that 8-0 game is gonna give me nightmares tonight.

oh, and i just thought I would make a small list of things we do better in America than you do in Germany. you of cource will do the same in return I am sure of that ;)

    1. Make sweet love to the Women. (the millions of women in occupied germany after the war could not be wrong. they were finally freed from the true travesty that was WWII :) ok that was warped
    2. make money. yeah we richer than you is. and we stole it all fair and square
    3. make music. sure kraftworks was cool, but you dont have Britney (ok I am laughing at myself)
    4. Brunettes. sure you got a few 6'tall blonds, hell so does texas, but we have the smoldering good looks that result from this melting pot. speaking of pot
    5. food. well you have german food, and some others. we have EVERYTHING including german food.
    6. cars. yeah I said it. our companies are both owned by the Japanese, but at least we had the model-t
    7. Space. it is our own little playground. you will be renting land on mars from us.
    8. BEER, yeah I said it. hell all the good beer makers came to america. sure some make sludge, but with the 500,000 different microbreweries, superior agriculture and a reckless demand. America is the king of beers.
    9. Cities NYC my town. in the imortal words of davis letterman, spoken by mayor Rudy " New York, our city can kick your cities a$$" :p
    10. finishing wars. sure there was one we didnt finish, but with all the wars you guys started, and we had to go finish them, i thought I would say it (before someone else did).

yes 10 things. just 10 for now, Im sure everyone has a few to add.

    alright im overtired
    PEACE

    VOR,

You realize that I have started every single poll for the US soccer team and it's opponents. I hope you have not jinxed us by doing a poll first.

yeah you did, and I thought about it, but the whole concept of a Jinx implies that we are not good enough to win. and besides that other thread was growing weeds.

Boy that Mexico US thread is some funny ****!

No matter what happens in the Qts, I am so proud of the US and what they've done. I'm not saying it doesn't matter if they lose to Germany. IT DOES!!!

All I'm saying is that the US can walk off that pitch Friday, no matter the outcome, and hold their heads high knowing they have made the world realize that the US can no longer be considered a laughingstock!

Germany is bigger, Germany has three world cups, (sorry VOR) Germany does have better beer.

But I say the US can play lose and free with no expectations.

I think scoring early is critical for the US. Get that first goal and put the doubt in Germany's mind.

Its going to be a match burned into my memory cells! I can tell you that!

In Europe, the Allies were on their death bed before the U.S. entered the war. France had been overrun and England was being attacked fiercely. However, with the help of the U.S., the Allies were able to turn the tide.

Only Germany and Italy remain guys. We lost France, but we knew that would happen anyway.

No more Italy, only Germany, Brazil and England are left.

This world cup is upside down, if we beat Germany, there will be only one true favorite left, either Brazil or England, as they play each other a couple of hours before our game on Friday.

Ah man, I may have to take Friday off work.

I'm starting to feel a little under the weather as I type this. But it's only Tuesday, so I've got a few days to fight it off. Hopefully I can! ;)

    MC Mark,

Be careful, incubation times for most colds/flus are in the 3 day range.
