The United State has just hit Afghanistan and they are hitting them hard. There's word of "thunderous" explosions, and power in parts of Afghanistan has been cut. They're hitting them hard, b-1s, b-2s, b-52s and tomahawk cruise missiles. They're attacking Taliban positions.

Amen MadMax. prayers also to Great Britain, who is also helping us. The U.S. is dropping food, medicine and supplies to help the innocent people since the Taliban is putting them in this situation.

I'm at work and don't have access to a tv.

    CNN.com isn't updating much.

What all's going on? Is it just aerial? What all are they bombing? Sorry to bother you guys, but I hate not knowing...

    thanks.

No problem haven. It's just an aerial attack. As one official said the U.S. is taking out the "eyes and ears" of Afghanistan like they did to Iraq so that they can't communicate or with each other or quote "See or hear the U.S. coming". They're going after the Taliban, after key bases, and bases where they think Afghanistan can get help, or where terrorist training is going on.

The tomahawk missiles are unmanned, so far it's minimal amount of pilots being endangered so far, by reports.

Just heard that we are going to bomb Afghanistan until daybreak there. Don't really know much else other than what other people have said here.

We're also dropping food, medicine, and other humanitarian aid to the Afghan people.

sam -- yeah my understanding earlier was that we would have to knock out anti-aircraft artillery to protect those slow moving planes that drop humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan.

I am very proud to be a citizen of a nation that drops food and aid to the peoples of a nation whose government harbors the men who masterminded and carried out an act of agression resulting in the death of over 5000 of our own. Search history and you will be hard pressed to find any superpower in any era that acted in such a way. Say whatever you want about ulterior motives...those motives may provide food this week for a family that hasn't had a real significant meal in months..perhaps years. At the same time, we remove from existence the oppressive regime that has been the cause of their suffering. God bless America.

Amen. Do your job and hopefully get it overwith quickly, but efficiently and absolutely.

I was watching both ABC and CNN and one of them said that the Tomahawks (or at least some of them) were being launched from British submarines. Many thanks to the British for backing up their mouths with action. It's great to see.

The British have really amazed me with their support. I would go to war for them anytime.

Another note. The foreign minister of the Northern Alliance said that they may move in with ground troops to confront the Taliban once the air attacks are complete. Apparently the US and the NA are in communication with one another pretty tightly. It almost sounded as if the NA would take on much of the ground warfare (initially anyway), but that's not a quote.

Also of note, there are several areas of Afghanistan apparently being attacked simultaneously. Among them are Kabul's airport, various areas around Kabul, and I believe also the city of Jalalabad are being targeted. According to the NA foreign minister, several known terrorist locations, including training grounds, are being bombed and hit hard.

Has anyone heard anything about bombings? Anything concrete? I've heard about the missle strikes.

Madmax, I agree wholeheartedly. I am proud of all of our actions, and I will of course pray for our soldiers and the Afghan people. I will also pray that the Taliban quickly makes the right decision and relents to our all our demands, before more lives are needlessly lost.

Afghanistan airbases, defense bases, main headquarters for the Taliban, anti-aircraft artillery have all been hit, as well as power grids among other. U.S. and British ships are firing most of the missiles. Osama bin Laden is declaring this a war on Islam, Islam themselves have said no this isn't a war on them, so bin Laden is a dead man. And Osama bin Laden thanked god for people in the U.S. being scared after the buildings were attacked, so he basically admitted to the attacks.

Rocks - where did you read that Islamic leaders are saying, "no this is a war on terror." that's really encouraging. but seems to be contradictory from what i'm hearing from pakistani clerics on televison and in the paper this morning.

Actually it was wrong about Islam, the report I heard it from made a mistake, sorry. I should have figured it was wrong, but didn't even think about it. Sorry. :(
