Detroit Tigers pitcher Ugueth Urbina's mother, Moura Villareal, who disappeared Sept. 1 from her home in Urbina's native Caracas, Venezuela, and held while kidnappers demanded $3 million ransom, was rescued Friday night.

After initially demanding $15 million from Urbina, the kidnappers had lowered their demands to $3 million in January.

She was rescued from a countryside home in Estado Bolivar in southern Venezuela, in a daring raid where two men were killed by police.

Urbina had left the club in September to go to Venezuela, and the Tigers had been working with Major League Baseball and its Venezuelan contacts to assist the pitcher.

Thank God she's allright. I'm glad those motherf*ckers got what was coming to them. Hopefully they were the only guys behind it and not just working for somebody else.

Glad to hear this. I can imagine that Ugueth will want to keep his mother living with him from now on, out of the country.

Not that paying kidnappers is right of course, but why didn't he try to pay the 3 million ransom? If I had the kind of money he has and someone was threatening to kill my mother, I'd be pretty likely to cooperate.

I think the chances of getting her back after paying the ransom would be higher than the chances of the police finding them. Also there is a high likliehood she would be killed or wounded during the rescue.

    man...don't you watch movies?

it's not about the movie. if you pay them. they'll kill her...therefore having the money and now witness.

it's about not letting them have the edge.

Exaclty, I hate those scenes where they point the gun at the girl and say drop your gun. If it was, I take my chances and shoot at the guy/girl. Seriously, the chance of you making out alive is much higher.

I say Opening Day should be Moura Villareal Day at Comerica Park.

In honor of her situation, beer prices will be cut from $15 down to $3.

In all seriousness, good news for him and his family. That must have been a horribly long few months for that family.
