Don't really recall ever hearing about this.. the media did a good job of covering this up. I highly doubt the ex-mayor would come close to the presidency anyways.. to think that he's getting millions from this is sickening.
I've always thought it was weird how Rudy Giuliani has been perceived as some sort of hero just for being the mayor of New York on 9/11. Sure, he had a great tough-guy swagger, but he didn't really do the things he was supposed to do.
Plus...ask a New Yorker what he was like as mayor before 9/11. Any New Yorkers out there that want to paint the picture for us?? MC Mark??
I'm not so sure, there are rumblings that basso and his wealth of political expertise and savvy have been courted by the Thompson people - his contributions on this BBS could very well change the course of the election - and history.
Below is an article describing the video. In my view, the most damning thing is on the radios. First, that Rudy would blame the firefighters themselves for not leaving the second tower when it seems obvious that were major problems with the radio communications. Second, that years after these problems had been known, his administration fast tracked a radio contract without competitive bid and without field testing. Those radios also failed and probably cost a firefighter his life on a separate incident. Sounds too much like the Bush's administration approach. And if you didn't catch it, no NYPD personnel were killed in the second tower because they had a different radio system and all heard the order to evacuate. 121 of FDNY died.
That video could prove powerful to many. But my instinctive cynicism kicks in whenever I see professionally made, one-sided political videos like that. I realized Rudy was in bed with NYPD but had no idea the firefighters union hated him so much. They had good reason. I would never vote for the guy. Well before this video, Rudy's "America's Mayor" label was nonsense to me. With the creation of his security company and speaking engagements, he has profited so much from the 9/11 tragedy it's almost gross. That he would also try to use 9/11 as a pole-vault to the White House is over the top for me.
Yeah he did, and give him credit where its deserved but he's been harping on and on about 9/11 and how great he was on the issue when he did a lot of dumb stuff before and after 9/11. If you're going to accuse others of all sorts of bs in regards to fighting terror and stake your campaign on your record on 9/11, then you essentially open yourself up to criticism. The FDNY absolutely hates the guy for some of the stuff he did and now they're finally speaking out.
he runs on 9/11..that's about it..he says "I was there..." then people just clap for him, its pathetic. I hope he loses, I'd rather nominate Arnold Schwarzenegger than him.
He's not a saint, and the whole thing with the wife in the hospital wasn't great either....and some say the economy had more to do with crime dropping then anything he did..... but he did handle himself with class on that day - far better then Bush did...and he has shown leadership. I don't know if a the mayor should be blamed for firefighter radios, seems to me if it was that big of an issue firefighters might have been able to push for better radios. Anyway, I don't think he's be right for the presidency. His approach is not likely diplomatic enough, and I can't seem him having much of a vision. But definitely a strong leader. Regardless, he won't get the nomination for one reason: He is a big time advocate of gay rights, and that's a no-no for a the republican nominee.
I dunno Yorker . . seems like you mighty close to Blaming the FireFighters for not fighting for equipment that should be standard. Is that what you doing? Rocket Rver
