Well, Many of you know that I have been running a game studio here in Austin Texas for the last 4+ years. I sold the company a couple of years ago to a group in England and in turn they sold out to a bigger company in England. Well, I was happily running my Texas studio, when all hades broke loose this past weekend. We had 2 managers in place over all of the studios, who were basically not doing a great job. I got called over to London last week, and met with the CEO of the entire firm. I had been having conversations with him about applications for our device www.gizmondo.com and figured he wanted to chat with me about my ideas. Well, apparently that was not even close. He offered me the CEO position over all of the Gizmondo gaming universe, including publishing etc......I was floored. Needless to say, I took it, and will work like a dog to make it a success, the Gizmondo is a lifestyle product that also does MP3, GPS, games, movies, etc..etc..etc.. It is really neat, but also VERY risky. So, I will not be around here as much as I have been, and that is probably a good thing, but I will still check in as often as I can, I just have a chance with Gizmondo to set up my family for life, and I want to take it going in with all guns blazing. An unbelievable week so far, and hopefully will only get better.....now if my Rockets could just get Sura back..... DD
What a condesending post. Best of luck with this endevor. Let me know when you need some beta testers.
INCREDIBLE!!! GOOD LUCK BUDDY! i'm coveting the Tiger Telematics (producer of gizmondo and soon to be bizmondo) stock and just need a transaction to go through until i put a few thousand into it. hope you don't let me down TGTL.PK
Congrats! It's obviously a great opportunity and I'm sure you'll do well with it. I'm curious, though, of your opinion. Recently I've been talking to a few tech/telecom MDs at a couple of the I-Banks (including one that is a main player in the recent consolidations). All of them consistently say the "it" device will be the one that successfully rolls together a cell phone/e-mail/gaming/mp3/GPS device. If so, it's obvious that the big players are not only looking to develop their own device, but are also willing to buy another company if they can develop the device first. I'm sure that comes as no surprise to you, but it leads me to the question: Is the end goal for a company like Gizmondo to beat out the rest and become the big player in the market, or is the end goal to sell out to another firm? I don't know a tremendous amount about your product, but I assume senior management in the company believes in the product. I'm mostly interested in the internal politics that go into that type of decision. I've mostly worked with troubled companies that try to gain some momentum and then position themselves to sell out in a few years. I haven't yet met a management team that wants to take the big risk and try and beat everyone else. Good luck with it. Just don't get a British accent...then you'll sound even MORE like a condescending ass.
