Maybe you haven't heard about this game but here's how it works. Imagine you're given a lump sum of money* but you're required to give a portion of it to an anonymous second person. You are only allowed to make an offer once to this person, and if he or she rejects your proposal, neither of you will get any money. So the question is what percentage of the money will you offer to the person? *Disregard extreme endowments such as if it was 10 cents or 10 billion dollars...I think you understand why they would throw off the accountability of the results.
dude wtf?? im pretty sure that anonymous 2nd person would accept any money that you give him...no matter how small.
Am I the only one who has no idea how this game works? Why would anyone reject you giving them money?
Here's an explanation I found of why that usually doesn't happen. "They're generally happy to accept a deal that's within 10 percent of an even split of the money. But their actions appear dominated by a sense of fairness, as rejection rates climb to over 50 percent by the time an offer drops to 30 percent of the total cash. The response also suggests a social dimension, as people are willing to punish the perceived unfairness in others, despite the personal cost." Scientists have been using the Ultimatum Game to test the affects of brain chemicals on people's sense of fairness as well as their generosity. It's really interesting... http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080608-exploring-the-neurochemistry-of-fairness.html
No, the deal is only between the first person who was given the money, and the second person he must give a portion to.
Anonymous as in an undisclosed person we know, or anonymous, as in, complete stranger? Cuz lemme tell ya, I'd be incredibly skeptical of any stranger offering me money, and I probably wouldn't take it, regardless of the zeros that follow.
If I knew that there was a chance that both of us got nothing, I would do a 50/50 split.... Fair is fair..... DD
I was in sales for a long time. People are skeptical of getting -anything- for free. How much can you explain to them? "I'm playing this game where I can offer you 50% of the cash in my pocket once. If you refuse, neither of us get any cash."
seems like most people would take the money no matter how much they knew of what was going on. i know i would
