Why is it that the Rockets are never in the market for a significant free agent signing? It's not the city; lots of NBA ballers hang in The Big H. Is there some problem with the organization? I thought it had a pretty good reputation... Thoughts? THeories?

They wasted their money on Rice, Moochie, Taylor, and Cato. Now that they are at the luxury tax max they can't afford to sign anyone.

when there has been somebody out there i think the rockets have tried to get them

    Drexler
    Barkley
    Pippen

then last year they got Yao Ming which was the most important acquisition since drexler

though technically a trade, Pipp was basically a fa aquisition.

Mo and Shandon were considered "significant" fa signings at the time when they settled for the exception.

I wouldnt say we WASTED our money on CATO, or TAYLOR or even RICE...

RICE has been injured alot which has been disappointed but the guys has been a decent player when healthy, Ive always liked CATO it is just we were spoiled by DREAM and players like Dream and YAO are hard to come by. TAYLOR was injured 2 years ago but he too has been a good player.

Now MOOCHIE...he is the biggest wastein NBA history!!...the man cant play period. He can hit some clutch shots but he cant run a team at all. He is too out of control.

We've had many notable FA's sign here.

    Charles Barkley
    Shandon Andersen
    Maurice Taylor
Scottie Pippen (technically a trade but just to make the #'s work)
    Antoine Carr
    Mark Bryant
    Eddie Johnson
    Kevin Willis
    Walt Williams

I may have made some mistakes but you get the idea. And don't tell me that most of these guys are useless because so many folks have been b****ing to pick up Ollie, Elden Campbell, Derick Colman, Alton Ford, Antonio Daniels and Piaksowski. This list of names fits very nicely with the latter half my list above.

I'll state again, MoT, Rice and Cato aren't worthless. Overpaid, YES. Worthless, NO!!! They are solid NBA players and will all have a full career. Plus I personally believe each of them is poised to show their full potential this season.

True. They just "hang". They don't stay here to play.

I remember once I got to see Moses Malone bang heads and almost slap Cadillac Anderson silly at Moody. Dream shook both of them silly during the next couple of 'pick-up' games.

The Chron article was pretty disappointing after CD said they weren't afraid of the luxury tax and wanted to pick up some vets. Apparently, he was just bull****ting us.

We all know that quality veterans are pounding on the door to get the league minimum.

Players wanted to play for Rudy.

No one wants to play for Rat Van Gundy.

Sorry but Players dont want to play on a Team where they know - The Rockets dont have a Playmaker and have done little to develop Eddie Griffin. Also we have been loosers for four seasons in a row. After this season when JVG makes something of this Team, then you will see a change of heart in the FAs. JVG is exactly what this Team needs. Rudy T had become just too much of a players coach and had lost control of his Team. JVG will make winners of this Team!

Oh please. Veteran players do not base their decisions on whether the Rockets have developed Eddie Griffin. That's absurd.

Bottom Line: NBA players do not want to play for free.

Why do you say the Rockets have done little to develope Eddie?

Everyone keeps saying we didn't develope Boki because we didn't give him playing time. Eddie got plenty of playing time and we didn't develope him either?

Don't you have to put some of this on the players?

Well, I'm curious to know what ya'll are realistically expecting from the Rockets in regards to FAs.

It seems like they are pursuing affordable, veteran depth & solid shooters, a la Pike & Daniels, which certainly addresses a need.

It's slow right now because there are still a few "name" players out there. After they sign, we'll start to see more movement among the "2nd Tier" guys.
