Not necessarily... I look at Macross (aka Robotech), when the Zentradi came to earth. They had this incredible weapons technology, but their stalwart focus on weapons and military left them underdeveloped in art and culture. They were so enamored with human cultures, they instead chose to settle with them rather than dominate and enslave them. Or look at historical examples. Heron of Alexandria clearly understood pistons and engines. And then he invented his aeolipile, showing he understood steam could be used to power a device. But he never put 2 and 2 together, and the steam engine would not be invented for another 2000 years. Just because our technology evolved a certain way doesn't mean theirs took the same path. They might have just accidentally stumbled on some sort of near-instantaneous travel that shaped their course of technological evolution. Since they had no motivation to develop other forms of travel, maybe they also had no need to research lasers, rocket fuel, nuclear fission, etc. Just a thought...
Finally, the PARTY OWL'S vision has come true. Hope those few chords bring back a few memories for those Houston punk scene survivors...
OR we could assemble a crew of marines that look like the Master Chief from the Halo series and have them go by the name of Rico's Roughnecks. When an alien ship would touchdown and an alien would come out of its ship one of the soldiers could punch it's exo skeleton and say, " Welcome to EARF!".
I think they are here and observing us, probably to see if we are going to blow ourselves out of existance before contacting us. DD
I really hope they're democrats, cuz I'm tired of being lied to about oil and war, and being chastised for getting a sloppy blowjob. maybe they can find bin laden and lower gas prices, too. I think I'd like that.
I hope they're Republicans. I just think it'd be a great irony if the Republican party has been abducting people and giving them anal probes... And still blackballs the Log Cabin Republicans. Come on. That'd be hilarious. If you were abducted by aliens and saw Karl Rove, Mike Duncan, Skorvaxx the Destruktor, Ted Nugent, and Pat Robertson giving anal probes to lifelong Republican voters (i.e. people out in the middle of nowhere), you'd laugh your butt off. Republican, Democrat, or Libertarian, you'd laugh your butt off. Until it had a probe in it. That would just be awkward.
good point, blathersby! lol! I needed that laugh today!! on the serious side, though, anyone here that doesn't believe there are aliens? at this point I think its almost a universally acccepted truth. kinda like alba being hot or wanting to wear her ass as a hat. I've seen quite a few unfamiliar objects in the sky and asked military friends about them. there answers are suspicious at best. I mean. one night I saw a low, extraordinarily low white light "sizzling" over head of my apt. it sizzled then split and disappeared nearby. normally, you'd think "meteor" but I've seen a ton of those. this was no meteor. meteors don't get followed 30 seconds later by all black, unmarked, low light helicopters. when I asked a friend of mine about it (he's former special ops), his explanation was that it was a "military training exercise". BS. there are no military training exercises immediately next to a public airport. I've had a a few other "sightings" or whatever, and my opinion is pretty much solidified: we're not alone, there are dimensions about and around us that we are just not perceptive enough to recognize, and I still want to wear jessica's ass as a hat.
Dude, you've got to email this idea to Trey Stone and Matt Parker, or someone else w/ similar sensibilities. You'd make some bank.
Here is what I don't get: Why do the UFOs have lights on their spaceships? The majority (all?) UFO sightings involve either seeing mysterious lights or craft with lights. The main reason human aircraft have lights is to be visible to other aircraft (or vehicles when they are on the ground). Same as boats. Aircraft do have headlights but only for ground cruising. So, either the aliens want to be seen by humans (in which case why haven't they just landed on the lawn of the White House or wherever?) or they don't. Since they haven't landed and announced themselves it is safe to assume they don't want to make contact so why the lights? Unless you subscribe to the theory that they are Frat-Aliens screwing with us. Do any human spacecraft have lights on them just for the sake of having lights? The shuttle probably does for re-entry and any spacecraft that goes to the space station probably does for visibility reasons. Did the Apollo spacecraft have lights? Do any of the planetary probes have lights? (Below may belong in D&D. I hope I don't spoil the good nature of this thread!) The other thing that puzzles me about people and UFOs: Why do people say they "believe" in UFOs or they "don't believe" in UFOs. If we are defining UFOs as alien spacecraft are they something to really believe in? They either exist or they don't. Very simple. Unlike god (or GOD or Gods or whatever) where there is absolutely no proof he/she/they/it exists (thus requiring "belief" or "faith") UFOs presumably are not spiritual or paranormal objects; they are simply spacecraft. You can be inclined to think that they exist or reason that, because the universe is so large, there is a good possibility they exist but I don't see why anyone would simply have "faith" in the existence of UFOs. This is where Contact was so brilliant: Contrasting Ellie's "faith" in aliens (and lack of faith in God) with Palmer's faith in God. If you can believe one thing exists (you just KNOW it is out there) without proof (i.e. Aliens) why can't you believe that other things exist (i.e God) without proof? It seems to me their are a lot of people who "believe" in scientific things but are not religious and I think that is interesting. Examples would be "belief" in evolution or "belief" in global warming. Both could be true, not true or somewhere in between. But it sure seems that there are an awful lot of people who "believe" or "disbelieve" in either (or both) of those theories regardless of what evidence comes out.
Man, thanks for the well thought out post. It was fun reading it. I even felt like you were talking about me at the end. I'd say that I want to believe in "UFOs" just by looking at human progress and the size and age of the universe. I agree with Carl Sagan when he said "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." The fact that people seem to be 'uniquely' gifted with subjective thought makes life so interesting, but it also makes the truth of the matter harder to get at. I want all the answers when I die. If I think I might not get them, I had better work as hard as I can to figure it out before I check out. Maybe its unrealistic, but my curiosity is more important to me than the comfort that faith in unnatural explanations could give me. That's just personally. I have to admit there are so many people that are smarter than me that believe in God. The conclusion I come to doesn't make me any better or worse as a person.
Why wouldn't they need the lights? I would assume that if you're doing interstellar travel, you would need some light to know where you're going/landing be it a crater on the dark side of the moon or in the middle of thick gaseous giant planets. Moreover, who doesn't want a pimped out spaceship?
