LIAM GALLAGHER BRANDS U2 'WANKERS' The latest targets in LIAM GALLAGHER’s war against the world are U2, who he has branded “wankers”. The Oasis frontman has been making a splash on the comeback trail, dissing the new generation of rock bands like Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs. But now, Gallagher’s wrath has extended to the old guard, with him lashing out via the Sydney Evening Telegraph after hearing that the U2 study video footage of themselves after gigs. He raged: “Wankers. Haven’t they got ****-all better to do? I’d rather be out there getting pissed. I certainly wouldn’t go back after a gig and analyse it. No wonder they’re the biggest band in the world: ‘Oh Edge, the fourth guitar solo wasn’t right tonight’. ‘Oh sorry, Bono’. If that’s what people think rock’n’roll is…” Gallagher’s comment follow U2’s admission to NME.COM earlier this year that one of the reasons they turned down the chance to headline this year’s Glastonbury was because they were uncomfortable about being filmed for television without having control of the edit. Meanwhile, U2’s televisual assisted Vertigo tour arrives in the UK next week, kicking off at City Of Manchester Stadium on June 14.
Heh - Liam Gallagher is such an irrascible character. I just got their latest album and about to listen to it after another run-through of "X&Y". Depending on how good this new Oasis album to me determines if Liam was right about U2 or not.
This is the same guy that walked out on his brother AND his band during the unplugged special for MTV only to have his brother sub in for vocals, who btw, did a better job then Liam ever could. All THIS wanker ever does is complain about other bands and their success. Time to stop leaving the flats, going to the pub and getting pissed drunk, mate.
I remember some years back reading about Gallagher and The Edge getting into a fight at an Oasis concert. Evidently The Edge brought his daughter to see Oasis, and Liam took exception. So I suspect there's always been some bad blood between these two bands.
liam is the jackass between the two but neither bite their tongues too often. anyways i don't think liam dislikes bono too much:
Hasn't Noel mellowed out over the years though? In the good ole days of Oasis, they both seemed like crazy hot heads, but I think Noel has matured a bit. He seems to be friendly with the U2, he gave Bono the idea for one of their new songs, One Step Closer. In the liner notes under that song is says "With Special Thanks to Noel Gallagher"
I'm sure they're probably friends. This reeks of a publicity stunt. Just like all of their other "antics".
This is why I love Oasis. If they were half as good as they thought they were, they'd be the Beatles. God bless 'em.
lol. this is the same guy that calls out chris martin from coldplay. gweneth paltrow a "gawky bird". thought it was kinda funny. i also remember him saying something about martin and the messages on his hand when playing the piano. they're an okay band. "okay"... that's all. btw, the interview with carson daly on trl a few years back when he was stoned was classic (no... i don't watch trl anymore. this was the early college days).
This coming from a guy who had 1 really good album - almost 10 years ago. Nobody even knows who the hell these guys area anymore.... And hopefully nobody cares either.... Fu#k Oasis.....
Actually their first 2 albums are considered modern classics and their latest is an above-average album. It is not as good as the first 2 but it is better than albums 3-5. Yes, Liam is a boorish individual and IMO, it has always been his brother, Noel, that has run that band. So, he probably (he being Liam) should have kept his mouth shut. But Oasis is a band that still has talent when they are focused. This smells of either a publicity stunt or Liam was very drunk or it could be both.
So no comments on what he was supposedly going off about? I figured people may talk at least a little about the going over video stuff.
Gallagher’s comment follow U2’s admission to NME.COM earlier this year that one of the reasons they turned down the chance to headline this year’s Glastonbury was because they were uncomfortable about being filmed for television without having control of the edit. Gallagher has got a point.
i assume you're talking about "morning glory" but many people consider their first album "definitely maybe" to be even better. oasis had the #1 selling album in the world last week so people do still care. coldplay is about to destroy that though and may overtake oasis' be here now as the fastest selling album in british history. anyways what did he really say that was so bad?
I agree with you. On the other hand, if Noel and Liam realized how crappy their music really is, they'd be embarassed enough to quit the business. I also agree with the poster who said making fun of U2 is a good thing. I don't have a whole lot in common with people who believe the history of rock -n- roll began with Patti Smith, as Bono does. Then again, I'm someone who believes making fun of everything and anything is a good thing!
