I've always said that if every player played their best tennis, Hewitt would never win another slam in his career (but then i suppose federer would never lose). He was No. 1 when men's tennis was extremely weak, possibly at it's weakest.

I'm hoping federer or Agassi can take it home, hopefully Hewitt will receive his standard pummeling from Federer if they meet in the semis. I think the only player who can hang with Roger is Marat Safin, but he's just so all over the place.

No i was talking about tennis, and i still feel that londan and paris are just as bad, just look at any match of henman in london.

however i did not see the game of nadal versus blake so i do not know how bad is was.

My brother was at the Nadal/Blake match and he said that fan taunting was not bad as what he saw in the Houston Masters tournament when fans and tournament organizer( Mattres Mac) openly cheered against the opponents of Agassi and Roddick.

Furthermore he said the French Open was quite tame. Wimbledon often seems biased on tv, but I'm not sure.

I think the class of most American tennis fans, especially in Texas isn't on par with the rest of the world.

Woohoo, three Americans in the quarterfinals.

Blake vs Agassi next round. I think Blake can upset the world.

    Ginepri is also playing well.

Did anyone catch the near fight between Coria and Massu. Coria is awesome!!

I want blake to do well but not at the cost of Agassi. He's the last thing I have to connect back to my old tennis playing days :). I hope Agassi wins it all and then retires. After that let the young bloods take over.

Totally agree with you, I hope Agassi gets one more big win before he heads into the sunset

I wish Blake and Agassi weren't playing each other in the quarters. Shame for either of those guys to bow out after the way each has been playing.

I also want Agassi to have one last major to his credit. But if Blake does win, I won't feel too terrible. Federer is going to be very hard to stop though. I think if anyone can beat him though, it's Agassi (though he'll have to be at the top of his game).

Roddick lost first round, yet we're still inundated with his name and image throughout the fortnight on TV.

I'm so sick of seeing the comercial with Andy's Mojo at the press conference. The dude's a good character actor, but c'mon, we've seen enough.

Is Roddick really worth all of this crap?

Anyone else tired of Andy's mojo yet?

Did anyone see Hewitt's match against Taylor Dent? During the on-court interview, the lady (I forget her name) told Hewitt that Dent had exposed weaknesses in his game, and asked if he was concerned about it going forward.

Talk about a bizarre question. The crowd booed her, and the two commentators Fred Stolle and John Newcombe were a surprised by the question to say the least.

    Go Lleyton!

I'll be rooting for Sanguinetti (amazing match against Srichapan, but I don't think he can get any further) and Agassi (I think he can beat anyone but Federer) from here on.

I saw most of the match but missed the post-match interview. I think it was Hewitt who exposed Dent's weakness -- the guy has no top spin backhand!

If Hewitt gets to the semi (more than likely), I hope he would give Federer more run for his money by making it a little more competitive. A "double-bagel" scoreline like in last year's final was just too embarrassing for a past US Open champion himself.

Although i'm not a hewitt fan by any stretch-that line about hrbaty, "i just couldn't lose to a bloke wearing a shirt like that" was classic.

I don't think Hewitt has another slam in him as long as his competition like Federer, Safin,Nadal, Roddick perfrom at their peak.

If federer goes down, i'm hoping agassi can win another slam and retire-he's earned it.

    Good for you, Isabel.

We are witnessing perhaps the greatest tennis player ever in the making. At this point of their careers, Federer is almost on the same pace as Sampras. Barring injuries and/or lack of interest, few in tennis world are betting against Federer surpassing Sampras in the end.

Federer is the only one on the list who has troubled Hewitt constantly and thats only been in the last 2 years

Hewitt has had the wood over Roddick nearly every time they have met.

Hewitt I believe would dismantle Nadal on any surface except clay.

    Safin is a 50/50.

Federer Hewitt struggles with after leading 7/1 in career matches after the epic Davis Cup match in 2003.

Let me just stress the term "at their peak". Tennis is unpredictable, any player can be had on any day, no doubt about that.

We both agree roger has the goods on lleyton. Roger Federer had not realised his potential in the times when Hewitt was beating him, since then though, it's been so ridiculously one sided that not even the Australian media can come up with enough excuses for him.

Roddick easily outplayed Hewitt the last time they met, which was just before the US Open-his game has improved dramatically since the Australian open and while it's not good enough for Federer (see wimbledon) he is just too good for Hewitt and is easily the best grass courter after Federer.

Give Nadal time for the hard courts-it's only a matter of time before he improves his game for every surface.

And as far as Hewitt having a 50/50 chance against Safin, you must be out of your mind. Safin destroyed Hewitt at the Australian Open after beating an in form Federer. Safin is the only player who can beat Federer right now-the man is just a machine when his head is on right. Now while Lleyton obviously has the edge in terms of consistency and mental toughness (assuming that was your basis for being 50/50), an in form, focused Safin would destroy Hewitt any day of the week.

Anyone know if the Argentine Nalbandian will be matched up against Federer in the next round? I remember him giving Roger a lot of trouble in an earlier match the past year..

    Yes he is.

dream so you believe if all 5 of those players were playing at their "peak" Hewitt would be beaten every time? I just can't accept that, Hewitt may not be the most skilled guy in the pack yet mentally he is without a doubt the 2nd best by far. You always hear past players say it, Tennis is 90% mental 10% physical.

I absolutely agree that he is easily one of the stongest players mentally, that's what keeps him in the match when you think he's done for -it makes him the most consistantly good player in the ATP (no matter what the tournament, he is never the type to lose to an unknown the way safin and roddick would)-but it's his strongest asset-his style of play is to keep the ball in and wait for the error, or hit the occasional error-it's a defensive style.

I most definately believe he couldn't beat those guys if they were at their peak, i'd love for him to do it but i just don't see it happening.
