http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/67143/20100611/tyson_chandler_may_become_free_agent/ Bobcats center Tyson Chandler is seriously considering exercising the early termination option in his contract, a source told ESPN.com's Chad Ford. If he does so, he'll give up the $12.6 million he's scheduled to earn in 2010-11 and would become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st. Chandler has struggled over the last two seasons, but the source says he's finally completely healthy. "He's gotten all of his issues taken care of," the source said, "and he's gearing up to have a big year next season. I think you're going to see the same Tyson who played so well for the Hornets a few years ago." Read more: http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_a...chandler_may_become_free_agent/#ixzz0qa9Hnb2L
Ooh sweet, another injury-prone big man who isn't really that good and whose success was based on his superstar point guard. JUST WHAT I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS
There's no way he's giving up 12 million. Ideally, you want ot be a FA coming off a good season, not an injury-filled one. He's going to keep his money and use that season to hopefully build up his stock and then cash in on a new deal.
Is that the last year of his contract? If we cannot get anything else (e.g. Bosh, etc.) done, I wouldn't mind trading some pieces (e.g. Jeffries, Andersen, Taylor) for him.
No, not gonna give up $12 mill. But he might give up a couple mill to go somewhere else and earn a new contract. He's essentially a 7 foot version of Chuck Hayes, very good defender, good rebounder, has no offensive game, except he is 7 foot and can throw down offensive boards and the pick and rolls.
I would take a look at him for our expirings... Jared Jeffries+1 perhaps... If he walks away, maybe he would take less in Houston...
HTownrocketfan, Here is something for you to read. Please link to the actual source (generally that's not RealGM)
Funny his former teammate Eddie Curry said the exact opposite that there was no way he was going to opt out of the last year of his contract worth 11M. Chicago had 2 centers that have 1/2 a game, Curry is a scorer and Chandler is the rebounder/defender. If you could put both of their games together into one player that might be worth 12M but both are overpaid from the glory days of paying big money to bigs like Foyle, Dampier. Don't know where these guys get their idea of what they're worth from.
Why wouldnt he stay in charlotte and earn it there? Its not like he's got someone behind him who could take his spot. It's his to have. Might as well earn a new contract there and still get his 12 mill because he may never make that much in a season again.
Chuck plays hurt. You'd have to shoot him to get him off the court. Mmmm... no, that was Landry. Anyway, there is only one Chuck Hayes and we've already got him.
Tyson Chandler will be GREAT on this Rockets Team. He is a 7 Footer that can block shots, play defense, and get rebounds. He has trouble staying healthy the past 2 seasons, so I would not want to spend 10 million on him. He is willing to accept a mid level, I will be all for it. We have enough offense and will be needing some defense in the post.
Yao / Chandler Scola / Hayes Ariza / Battier Martin / Budinger Brooks / Lowry Perfection. I doubt he walks away from $12 million though. But it would be nice to make Andersen, Taylor, and Jeffries what they are - third string.
