I'd argue otherwise, actually. The team will likely use its pieces to go for a contending team now rather than rebuild next year. I feel we went for the pick this offseason because Morey anticipated Rubio actually coming over. Not toil in Spain for another two years.
The rumor that was reported was Battier and Brooks to Memphis for the #2 pick, which we would have used on Rubio. If he had been drafted that high, he might have come over, making more money than he would as the #5 pick, where Minnesota took him. And I imagine we might have scraped together pretty good endorsement deals for him here in Texas, despite his Castilian lisp and use of "vosotros" instead of "ustedes". Supposedly the deal fell apart when Morey also asked for Rudy Gay as part of the trade, but who knows the truth in these things. Watching Aaron Brooks tearing it up (although he has little choice with no clear stars on our team), you'd have to wonder if Morey would defer the team's improvement.....although Les certainly knows the value of a young foreign-born star. Les' investments in China virtually guarantee that if Yao Ming had to "Willis-Reed" his way through another couple years, Les will ensure he'll be here.
I have a hard time believing that, mainly because we are trading Battier BACK to Memphis to get Rudy Gay BACK, and essentially turning Brooks into a #2 pick.
john stockton steve nash good...without the shooting... hes been tearing it up in the spanish league recently........ I'm more than willing to give up Battier for him....Battier currently doesn't fit into the flow of the current offense.with the struggles we already have on offense.....battier certainly doesnt help it better much
From the few games I've seen: Rubio has good size for a PG, long arms, quick hands and lateral movement that allows him to play nasty defense. Dangerous in transition, great court vision and always looks for his teammates first. But he's neither explosive nor strong enough to be a good finisher around the rim at this point. Can't really shoot from the outside but has a nice shooting form. The way he runs offense reminds me of Steve Nash. Not that great a shooter of course. Defensively he seems as agressive as Rondo. Completely shut down Tony Parker in the 2009 European basketball tournament.
I'm not that high on Rubio. Please dont even think about trading AB for him. If we can dump TMac's contract for him, then do it.
Yeah but his stock dropped. McGrady for him could work, but I wouldn't give up Brooks and Battier. Maybe Battier+JT+2nd rounder
He's got great size for a PG. I think it was at the Kings workout he measured 6-5 in shoes, 6-8 wingspan. I think the most worrying part of his game atm is the total lack of elevation on his shot.
Things have sure changed since the summer, b/f teams were looking to trade for rubio, now the wolves are looking to trade him, Hmmm......we could get him for the right price now
Teams are crazy if they think they can get Brooks for alot less than before if his stock keeps going up with his points per game. They had a chance to get Brooks, Landry, Scola, and Battier before this year inflates their numbers for some good deals for them. Now they will have to raise the deal of the trade to get them when their numbers go up by All Star break. Brooks might be untouchable by then and Scola or Landry could almost demand a star in return by themselves. The longer they waited to try and mess around get Rockets on the cheap the more they will have to pay in return for a trade in midseason.
