The NBA is investigating Minnesota for some shady dealing with Joe Smith. http://www.nba.com/news/timberwolves_smith_000908.html I thought Kevin knew better than this. Mango ------------------ 1. Holy free-holies. Thanks for the article Mango. Once Smith is kicked off of the TWolves (and they have excessive fineage... damn), there PO position will be drastically altered. ------------------ Why don't you guys go down to the gym and pump each other
If they void his contract, he becomes a free agent. Lets go after him!!! ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
Investigate Garnetts contract. I think there were some shadiness involved there. Garnett would become a free agent next year and.... ------------------ Fun Police Says: 1. The T-Wolves were pretty much asking for trouble when they put this "behind closed doors" deal in writing. ------------------
Well, at least they don't have to pay those 10s of millions now. We now know that no official "wink, wink" deal was made between Shandon and the Rockets, or at least none the league could find out about. I've always liked Joe Smith. He was a bust of a #1 pick, but still has some talent. Hmm, maybe Garnett will tell him that since he can't stay with the T'Wolves to sign with the Rockets and Rudy T. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Because I get bored waiting for the season to start, I wonder about such things. I've imagined secret contracts of future deals being locked away in a vault until the day arrives that they can be signed. Then I thought, no one would be stupid enough to do it. Then I thought, no one would be stupid enough to get caught. There's a reason people play games in the signing of contracts, why MoTay at his press conference when asked about his future with the Rox didn't burst out screaming with joy, "The Rox have big-time cap money next year and have already promised me the whole damn wad! ALL RIGHT! YEAH!" Dumb, dumb, DUMB, T-Wolves. ------------------
We dont need Joe, we need Kevin. He said he would swim to Sydney for Rudy, how about just forcing a trade to Houston. I mean wouldnt that be easier then swiming to another continent? ------------------ Fun Police Says: 1. Stupid threads are not FUN! 2. And the plot thickens..... Glen Taylor, the T-Wolves owner, has admitted to the secret agreement: http://www.startribune.com/viewers/qview/cgi/qview.cgi?template=wolves_a&slug=wolf0909 Looks like Joe Smith's contract's gonna be voided. I'd bet he will look for and sign with a team who is projected to have cap room at the end of the season... I'd rather have Kevin though. ------------------
Man... a team player that won't just be showcasing himself. I call rebate on the Mo Taylor deal. J. Smith hits 6 rebounds in 25 minutes. ------------------ Why don't you guys go down to the gym and pump each other
A Maryland alumni, too. He even fits the no VCR rule, as his season high in defensive rebounds was against Houston. Let's just hope the Lakers don't get him. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
Lakers would be even better with smith, a good hustler who can shoot, rebound, an play good defense. but how the hell did the warrios pass up kg for smith? smith is good but KG is way better. last year joe played 4th fiddle on kevins team. right now i can thnk of ten ways to make the lakers better that are realistic and i hope none of them happen
It may surprise alot of people, but based on 30 min/game Joe Smith's career stat averages are almost identical to Carlos Rogers. Smith would hold a slight 13.6 to 11.9 PPG edge. Why bother. ------------------ GATER [This message has been edited by GATER (edited September 09, 2000).]
LOL. I was suprised when CD mentioned "watching tape on Mo" just a few weeks ago. I was thinking "tape?!? huh?", but then I saw the feed of Mo Taylor leaving the press conference w/ a VCR tucked up under his arm. ------------------ Why don't you guys go down to the gym and pump each other
I bet the Blazers go after him ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
Amen, GATER. Smith hustles and plays good defense? He must've changed since his days with Golden State. Mostly because Garnett was the first high schooler to come out in a long time, so nervousness among GMs kept him from going as high as his talent warranted -- but also because the Warriors were run at that time by Dave Twardzik, who had an unerringly bad eye for talent (he let it be known to local reporters before the 1996 draft that he didn't think Kobe Bryant was much of a player). Whatever you want to say about Don Nelson, he's always been respected enough to get another job. Twardzik was so bad that he will never again be hired for a position with personnel responsibility by any team (he's now an assistant coach in Detroit). That's the role he's suited for in this league. His best season with the Warriors was his rookie year, when he was "4th fiddle" behind Sprewell, Hardaway, and Seikaly. (Yes, his stats improved in his second year, but only because he became a master of putting up numbers in garbage time.) A columnist in today's Minneapolis Star-Tribune puts it best, describing Smith as "an undernourished, under-achieving 6-10 forward who might be a nice guy but has a chance to be, at best, a slightly above-average player." ------------------ [This message has been edited by Swopa (edited September 10, 2000).]
Those stats don't tell you much. Yeah, Los might average the same numbers per 48 minutes, but he's always nursing nagging injuries which prevent from actually playing as much as Joe Smith does per game. I do agree that he doesn't have much of an upside these days. Mo Taylor might actually turn into something, while Joe Smith won't be much more than a good role player. ------------------ Nederland 2002 Qualifying Campaign (Damn those penalties!!!)
