They need to make another Twisted Metal game. If they ever decide to make a another one, i'll buy a ps3 tomorrow...Twisted Metal, TM2, and TM Black are all classics I'll maul your ass with Thumper, Grimm, and Spectre
It's like Street Fighter II. It'll never be the same. Find something new. Or did you enjoy Street Fighter Alpha 3? By the time that came out, nobody I knew was interested in learning new moves. RC Cola: If you know anyone in the video genre, the ONLY Next Gen Street Fighter Game that will be successful is a 2-D incredible graphics rendition of the original, with the exact same moves we all mastered in our youth. If they want to go crazy, go to superior story modes on each character. But trying to come up with a new one that will capture a new generation is simply ignoring your core audience. Much like Frogger II was a disappointment, or Pitfall III was also. Street Fighter would sell like hot cakes if we all were to be able to use the exact same moves that were there originally, mainly due to the one on one fun we all shared. As much as Madden is great. I can also say a Super Tecmo Bowl 2007 with horizontal graphics would sell well also, as long as the core parameters were there. I know gamer programmers always want to go bigger and badder, and that is great. But for some of us older gamers who don't have hours to chill and play with our dormmates anymore, it gets tougher and tougher to play someone when they want to play a two player game. We 30+ yr. olds still love competition as well. Just don't keep us in the old era where we can only play (BTW FREE) games we learned as kids. Put a new spin on them. Increase graphics and playability, (even if you went to some FFVII renditions during a tackle), and you'd sell millions. No joke. 30+ yr. old players want to compete. We just don't have the time that a 20 yr. old does, anymore. Hell, I'd be willing to take part in the financing.
Twisted 1 and 2 were great games...then 989 took over and ruined it, but I thought Twisted Metal black on ps3 was amazing (im not sure who made that gmae, but it wasnt 989)....I dont think TW on a next gen system would fail...
TM2 was one of the best games ever. TM Black was pretty cool too. I liked that you could be Minion. and the story lines were pretty much out of a horror movie.
You know the one game I've been rememoring about and wish they made again on the 360? Destruction Derby. The first two in that series were awesome. Me and my buddies used to love going through the circuit where you race but get points for wrecking other cars in the process. The second game had a track in a figure eight which was insane. Of course, they always had the Derby Pit as well were you all just hit each other 'till the last one stands.
I think the team that did Twisted Metal Black was basically the same guys that did TM1 and 2. The original team and Sony had some contractual issues after TM2, so Sony went to 989 to make TM3 and 4. But later on, most of the original team decided to leave the company they were with (SingleTrac), and form Incognito. Sony got them to work on TM Black and Twisted Metal Head On for the PSP. I think Sony bought them as well, although I'm not sure. Incognito has more or less been dissolved though IIRC. It seems like developing Warhawk tore them apart or something. I think most of the guys went with David Jaffe and Scott Campell (the lead designers for Twisted Metal) to form the independent company Eat, Sleep, Play, while the rest went to the Sony Santa Monica studio (mostly to continue support for Warhawk I believe). I think I mentioned this in an earlier thread, but Eat, Sleep, Play are working on porting the PSP Twisted Metal game to the PS2 with new content (including a documentary). I suppose they could be working on a next-gen Twisted Metal game assuming the team is still interested in the franchise. Maybe you should spam David Jaffe's blog so that he can get an idea of how popular a Twisted Metal game could be. This is actually an interesting idea, similar (or the same) as another idea I heard recently. Basically, it would be nice if (more) developers would "remaster" some of their classics, similar to what movie studios do with their older movies (see Disney). Update the graphics, maybe add online elements, fix bugs/glitches, etc., but keep the game roughly the same (same story, same basic gameplay mechanics, same controls, etc.). There are some examples of this, although it would be nice if more developers did this, especially since it wouldn't require a full team of developers since a lot of the groundwork would already be in place. I suppose Capcom is sort of doing this with Street Fighter. They're basically remaking SF2, improving the graphics and adding things like online play (though they might be tweaking things more than they should). With SF4, they may choose to change a few things if they want (perhaps 3D visuals, new control scheme, etc.).
TMBLACK was amazing. i was amazed when my cousin first got his ps2. i was like OMG THE FACES ARENT SQUARE LIKE IN GOLDENEYE! lol
