you should get all of these. You need ESPN HD. that's like fish needing water.

    on a technical note,

if you have HDMI or DVI input on your TV, you need to get the cable, I can tell it's cleaner than the HD Component (really analog).

you can get cheap HDMI cables at Fry's.

I have T/W's HD DVR box for my 42" LCD HD display, and I certainly didn't have to pay $50 bucks. You somehow got shafted! They say they are going to keep adding HD channels as they become available, and I believe them. Of course, I live in Austin, and from what I've heard, the T/W service here is much better than H-town's.

if you want football, you gotta go with DirecTV, they're the only ones that have the Sunday Ticket Package, and all of the games are in HD...

I just called TWC. The $50 charge is if you have them come out and install/swap out the box for you. If you come to them at their store it is free.

She also said she wasn't aware of a freezing problem with the HD/DVR box. She has one herself and it has no problems. I still think I'll wait until August to swap it out.

Forgot to ask about the cable. Assume they provide one. My TV is 5 years old so its no longer hi-tech so I should be fine.

I should have done this much sooner but thought it was much more expensive.

Thanks for all your help guys/girls.

I still think you should get out of the $50, if it applies to you. Tell them you're looking at Dish, and what have they got to offer. I do that about every 6 months, and there is always some deal they manage to "discover." Good luck!

I've got Dish, and for the money i think it's a pretty good buy. They just added the NFL network in HD as well, so i'm pumped about the upcoming season!!!!!
I would say that the HDMI cable is the way to go.....but if your tv is older you probably don't have the HDMI connection. The cables that twc provide aren't the best in the world, i would say that the higher end cables are better for the older tv.....u can find some great deals on ebay for monster cables and stuff.....

50 dollars is if you're lazy and/or don't know how to hook it up, and TWC has to send someone out to set it up for you.

They provide you with component cables, they're not all that great, but they're free. :)

I personally would go with DVI, since that's what the HDTV in the livingroom has, but well, I'm cheap. I need to go out and buy DVI cable sometime soon though, as well as an optical audio cable.

Yeah, I posted it in the other thread, it's not just the HDDVRs, it's an issue with numerous 8300 DVRs, standard as well as HD.

She may not know specifically about the issue (fat chance), but there is a problem with it freezing when accessing the guide (especially in the 400s)

I've had the same exact Scientific Atlanta Time Warner box (HD DVR) in 3 cities now (New York, Austin, and Houston), and all of them have worked great. The only box I've had that fits this "freezing" description was the original Scientific Atlanta DVR (non-HD) cable box I had in New York YEARS ago, back when New York was one of the first places around to get DVR. So, considering the problem dates back years, I assumed Scientific Atlanta had ironed it out a while back. That sucks that a lot of people are getting bad boxes.

Don't think the problem is the box, but the software. It seems to be a pretty widespread problem

thats cause you are looking at the expensive brand ones. fry's is about $30-$50. I actually have a DVI cable that I bought from frys (together with a HDMI-DVI adapter), picture looks much better than when I was using component.

I used the component for DVDs now. depends on what you value more, HDTV or upconvert DVDs. If you have 2 hdmi slots, that's the way to go!

also, this place on the web is great:

Yeah, I just ordered some from Monoprice the other day. I wish I'd known about that site before I dropped 130 bucks at Worst Buy on a DVI-to-HDMI cable. Oh well, live and learn.
