Ahhh, geez. Just heard about the show being canceled. I guess I'm not too surprised given the unusual hiatus.
If they gave this show a chance they might find the audience grow. I think it's hard for people to get invested in shows when they disappear so often from tv.
I don't think any spoiler tag is necessary when I say last night's episode was very interesting and they most certainly have a LOT of explaining to do in next week's season finale. Probably a two-hour finale, I'm guessing.
You're assuming they will answer all your questions. NBC has really screwed things up by cancelling series without providing an ending (Flash Forward, last year). It makes it less and less likely that people will commit to these types of shows. If The Event finale was written and produced before they knew they were getting cancelled, then it could very well end like Flash Forward did - with all sorts of open ends for next season, which will never get answered. (note: I am about 6 episodes behind on this show, so I don't know the specifics of what you're referring to).
I heard that they would end the season without leaving the events of the season unresolved. If they leave it obscure like Flash Forward I will be done with NBC.
Good point. My buddy and I were just discussing this. I'm just guessing they have more than one ending pre-recorded just in case the cancellation occurred. Not really sure what the norm is, though. You could very well be right.
To be fair, Flash Forward was on ABC. Yeah, I don't think anything is going to get resolved really. "The Event" will happen, and you know what it's going to be, and we'll be left wondering what happened in the aftermath. They said the same thing about Persons Unknown. "All questions will be answered." That was a load of crap. The people who made the show knew that wasn't happening but NBC put it in every ad for the show. At this point, I'm not expecting closure and will be pleasantly surprised if I'm wrong.
That was actually NBC decision, the showrunner for Persons knew it set up clearly for a 2nd season but NBC decided to sell it as having a real resolution, even after the show had been canned. By the way, here's a quick section from an article in March with quotes from the show runners for The Event... Among the other dramas whose fates are unclear: NBC's The Event has assured fans the show's burning questions will be answered by season's end. But that doesn't mean producers, hoping for a renewal, won't throw in a twist. ''Our plan is to end with a huge turning point in the mythology,'' says exec producer Evan Katz http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20474458,00.html
I missed it. I guess I'll get another chance at it as they will probably air a repeat this weekend. I think I DVR-ed the last half anyway. What ever happened to the two hour season finales? They all seem to be one hour this season. I'm not sure I've even seen a two hour finale this season. I don't think NCIS had one and none of the CSIs did. I feel cheated.
Spoiler Since NBC won't allow the luxury of Season 2 to do the explaining, does anybody have any theories as to what the "scrolls" mean with regards to what THE EVENT actually is? So they hyperspaced a dying planet seemingly into Earth's orbit -- what happens now? Earth is on a rotating axis, right? So what happens to this alien planet....do they join Earth's orbit? I'm confused. Not only that, but I'm the furthest thing from a science guy you'll ever find.
Well, not only that. But also.... Spoiler What's the deal with Dempsey's "clan"? What's with Dempsey's fascination with reverse aging? What about Dempsey's creepy future-predicting black pad? What will happen to Bubble Girl? What about Bubble Girl's sister? What do the scrolls really say? It's like they spent so much time building the Dempsey element to just basically have him commit suicide so viewers will stop asking questions.
The show's aired. I'm not going to spoiler anything. But I'm confused about beaming to whole planet to earth thing? WTF? Can they just go back to their planet now, even if it's very close to Earth? And if they can do that, why did they need to kill all the humans to make space on Earth? If their next "evolution" took place on their planet, would it still affect us here on Earth. Some other things, I don't know if there'd be time, but once they knew where the array was, they should've just bombed the **** out of it instead of asking Sophia how to shut it down. Worry about international repercussions later. And what's the deal with the president's wife? It's confirmed that she is in fact an Alien, but she clearly wasn't on Sophia's side but also wasn't willing to reveal her secret and use her knowledge to help the Earthlings. WTF?
