Looters move in after rig full of groceries overturns on freeway The looters managed to steal diapers, canned goods and bottled water. ABC13 Eyewitness News (11/04/03 - HOUSTON) — An overturned 18-wheeler meant a mess for police, but free groceries for others. The driver of a truck was heading to a Kroger when it tipped over on the ramp from the Southwest Freeway to Highway 288. As a result, hundreds of items, like diapers, canned goods and bottled water spilled on to the freeway. "I was about two cars back from where the collision started," said eyewitness Reuel Williams. "The 18-wheeler was moving at an excessive speed. It hit the guard rail and then flipped up on its side." Looters arrived on the scene before emergency crews did, and ran off with many of the spilled items totaling more than $1,000. Once police arrived, authorities ran the looters off, but did not arrest them. ---- http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/news/110403_local_riglooters.html --- Hardcore looters to get on the highway Pictures courtesy of KHOU.
Taking something that doesn't belong to you is stealing. Had the products not been sellable AND they were still useable, it would be better to donate them to charitable cause rather than have thieves steal them.
Well, considering Houston is one of the fattest cities in America, I'm sure all the candy bars and potato chips were the first things to get snatched up.
Nothing that tear gas and bean bag rounds from a few shotguns wouldn't have solved. Sick, twisted, petty thieves.
