I am an old poster on this board who doesn't know much about computers. I acidentally downloaded a virus while surfing the net. Please don't blast me just looking for some free advice on what (free) antispyware will work the best to get rid of this. My Norton subscribtion hasn't been renewed since February and it is telling me there is a trojan spyware and the threat is someone is attacking my personal information. Any advice would be grealy appreciated
Not really a D&D topic but oh well... Download and run the following in SAFE MODE. Always make sure you run virus/spyware scans in safe mode. To get to safe mode, hit f8 when your computer just turns on. (usually when it displays the company logo of your computer) Anyway, download and install the following before running them in safe mode. Spybot Search & Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html Lavasoft's Ad-Aware - http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-20...045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5 Microsoft Antispyware/Windows Defender - http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx And update your virus scan program (norton) and run that in safe mode too. There are some other things you can install and run but do those first and let us know what happens.
the trojan was planted by Cheney to further erode our rights. there...NOW its D&D material btw Also add to that list...AVG's antispyware and rootkit detector
When I had this problem, other users gave me some helpful advice that I'll pass on to you: 1) Stop downloading pr0n 2) Download all the Ad-Aware, Spybot stuff 3) Make sure you have the latest Windows Security update 4) If the above doesn't work, go here: http://spywarewarrior.com/index.php
Yes, if you got your Trojan from a website, chances are you were looking at stuff that you shouldn't be looking at. So, layoff the pRon sites for a bit. Especially the ones with the endless pop-ups and heavy banners. Those are just virus overkill for your computer. Restart your computer and enter through Safe Mode. Scan it with one of those free programs like Adaware or something. Go to download.com to get those free programs. Clean it and then restart your computer. If
This forum has a few experts who will help you out if S&D, and Ad-aware aren't able to remove it. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ Check the Security section on their site. They might ask you to download a program called HiJackThis to remove some of the really hard to remove trojans like Vundo. That program is very powerful but if you don't know what you're doing it can mess up your computer pretty bad. So it's a good idea to listen to their experts' advice before running it. Try these online virus scanners that should help in removing it as well. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/activescan/ There's a third antispyware removal called SUPERAntispyware that picked up some stuff S&D and Ad-aware were unable to find.
