Props to Will -- he just became the first ever BBSer to make the Quotes section. Some of the stuff you guys post is just priceless... need to come up with a BBS Highlights/Hall of Fame section. DreamShake -- no slight on you -- I'm sure you were accurate. I should have given a smilie, but when it comes to Quitten, the last thing I think of is putting in a [This message has been edited by Clutch (edited January 28, 2000).]
the 3 wasn't in steve's mug. it was shandon or cuttino, take your pick. and must we overlook the fact that steve singlehandedly pulled the rox through this game? i mean, damn, i wonder if any of you negativists have kids. growth and time go hand in hand. oh yea, he had one of the most impressive triple doubles the NBA has seen in years, but he didn't shoot well. oops, that means his accomplishment wasn't all that good. bull****. did you say that about hakeem in his heyday? or did you complain about his teammates and coaching?
Don't worry, we'll be seeing a lot more triple-doubles from Steve Francis. I think he's taken the loss hard. He said something to the effect that his triple-double doesn't mean anything because his mistakes at the end cost the game.
Will is right...LOTTERY 2000!! I am thoroughly excited about the future of this ball club. Stevie, Shandon, Cato, Rogers, Mobley, and KThomas...we get to watch them grow as a team and as individual players. PLUS, we have a good shot at the lottery this year. Who do we draft? Who knows....but we ain't the Clippers, and we ain't the Grizzlies. Rudy and Co. will draft a good player and make him shine. It is hard to see the Rocks lose. But keep the faith, stay the course, feel the flow!! I am not sure what all that means, but it sounds good. "Let Love Rule" Lenny Kravitz Peace, ------------------ HOOP-T
Let me rephrase: What I meant was that this being a rebuilding, transitional year and all, I think the value of player development is greater than the value of a win. I think many of you interpreted me as saying that any player's stats are more important than any team's wins. If these were the contending Rockets, of course I would much rather see the Rockets beat the GState Warriors rather than watch Charles Barkley get a triple double and us lose. However this is a totally different situation. Wins dont mean a damn thing in this rebuilding year, and I would feel a lot better knowing my superstar is capable of carrying the load.
I think it was a great night. This is a learning team, potential and growth, not bottom line performance, is most important right now. I still think we will probably draft in the single digits next year (if we keep it). If not in the sigle digits, at most it will be 1 or 2 higher, still pretty good position. About the quad-double thing? Who was the last guard to get one. I seem to remember Lever or Robertson getting one, which could only put it say 15-20 years ago. I thought maybe Clyde got one too, I know he had been reasonably close to the 10 steal mark before. I don't remember MJ ever getting very close. You would think Kidd or Payton would have been close once or twice.
Sir - I believe there have only been 3 quadruple-doubles in NBA history -- Hakeem, Robinson, and one other guy who I can't think of at the moment.
Clyde nearly had one in the 95-96 season opener. He was just one assist away from becoming the 5th player in NBA history [I think], to ever record a quadruple double. I know Dream had one. There was another guy...not a superstar, or a star for that matter. Some no-name guy who was with the Raptors a few years ago [might still be, not sure, he is really old though.] I think it was "something" Robertson. Can't remember...
TheFreak -- If I'm not mistaken, Hakeem was the third, but there are four. Nate Thurmond, Alvin Robertson, Hakeem Olajuwon and David Robinson.
Alvin Robertson was an oustanding all-around guard in his prime (I am sure a multiple time all-star), I think most of his good years were with the mid 80's Bucks. The other guy I was thinking of was Lafeyte (sp?) Lever, a very good defensive and rebounding guard for the Nuggets. Of course back then the Nuggets shot every 10 seconds so it probably wasn't hard to get a lot of rebounds. Also, about the 4-double thing, I don't believe all the stats were kept years ago. You can bet Wilt, Russell, O. Robertson and some others would have had them. I could be wrong about this though, come to think of it Nate Thurman is no spring chicken.
