Salary cap experts, I need your feedback on the proposed trade.
Maurice Taylor, Kenny Thomas, and Kelvin Cato. MTaylor $8 mil and Cato $6 mil and 15th pick for a total of $15.6 mil.

I see a lineup of Francis, Mobley, and Garnett giving people fits night in/out. Keeping Kenny Thomas is key along with Eddie Griffin's development. I think we can find a serviceable center to replace Fato.

Garnett is the most overated player in the NBA. He is an incredible athlete, but he can not create his own shot which is why he fails to dominate at the end of games.

He is a STAR player, but is in NO way a Superstar player.

I think he is a very nice PIPPEN type player.

He would excel if he was not the main option.

man532...there isnt a chance that Minny is giving up KG for 3 slugs and the 15th pick...granted, they are not happy with the fact that he hasnt pushed them over the 1st round hump, but I really dont think that they are so down on him that they would trade him for Rice, Mo and KT plus a pick. If it didnt include Stevie...it would have to be something along the lines of Griff or Cat and some salary filler, the #5 and perhaps another 1st rounder. If they get rid of KG for anything, you can be sure that they will stockpile 1st rounders being that Stern took some of theirs away.

You know what? I would trade Steve for Garnet though.

Cat and Garnett > Steve and Cat

The trade is lopsided in my opinion. It's not like KG is going to demand a trade. They might trade him for a trade in their favour.

The Clipps might have something to offer actually.

    Kandi
    Lamar Odom
    Corey Maggette
    Keyon Dooling
    12th pick

    for

    Garnett
    Loren Woods
    Will Avery
    Nesterovic

fair trade considering KG is one of the best in the league yeah?

I think that sounds pretty fair Sane...although I cant imagine Sterling picking up the Big Ticket's pricetag.

Despite his playoff futility, Garnett is still "the man" up in Minnesota, and I'd bet he's as popular as Kirby Puckett was back in the late 80's/early 90's. Minnesota would demand another big name in return, and that would mean Francis for us. Plus, considering his contract is grandfathered into the CBA and he will make more than other superstar players, we'd probably have to give up more than Steve

I think it is easy to confuse being overpaid with being a role player or a Pippen type players.

From a statistics standpoint, KG played in a very dominating sorta way.

    24 pts/g, 18.7 rpg, 5 apg, 1.67 spg, 1.67 bpg

Those are incredible numbers. Compare them to any player thus far in the playoffs and they will hold up as possibly the best of the group. Statistically, imo, he has outperformed in the playoffs almost everyone, with the possible exceptions of Dirk and Paul Pierce. But his numbers even match up favorably against them. Dirk scored nearly 10pts more a game but had over 4 less assists, fewer boards and fewer blocks. Pierce scored a bit more, but have far fewer boards, less assists and fewer blocks.

KG gets a lot of criticism because his contract is so high (and I do agree that he is overpaid), because he isn't a scoring machine yet still manages to rack up close to 25 a game, and because he can't get past the secound round. But he has yet to have a home seed in the playoffs. He just doesnt have the players around him to compete in the West.

he would be a very very very good addition to the Rockets and, assuming we didn't sell the farm to get him (i.e, don't trade Francis or Mobley mainly and try and keep Griffin), would make us not only playoff contenders, but, in a year or two, championship contenders. Just my opinion though.

If we could get KG, I would trade Griffin. Griffin is going to be a good player someday, but not KG good.

    Oski is right.

In fact. Flame me if you want. I'd do a Griff + Steve for Chauncey Billups + Garnett.

    Billups
    Mobley
    Garnett
    Taylor/Thomas
    Cato

We'd flourish with that line-up. KG needs offensive weapons with him. He can rack up assists, rebounds, blocks steals, while not being so uinder pressure top score. Mo T, Mobley and Billups are all excellent scorers.

Minnisota already came out and said that trading KG is not an option in the offseason. I heard this on Fox Sports News. It's looking more like if they are going to get rid of anybody it's going to be Wally world. Also, KG's contract is going to come up after 2 years so they can resign him for the vet max which would give the T-wolves about 11 mil. more to spend on free agents that year.

Garnett is tired of the hype in Minny and is looking for a way out. He would be excellent as defensive stopper and a 2nd or 3rd option behind Cat and Steve.

Minny needs to get something back besides 1st round playoff exits. As a result, I think they will take MoTaylor who around the same age, Cato, Kenny Thomas, and the 15th pick. I think they would ask that we also take Joe Smith. No way.

Talking about trading for Garnett is far fetched in itself....talking about him coming here to be a 2nd or 3rd option is downright absurd

I KG was on this team, the first play we run would probably be Garnett in the post. Because of the player KG is, he would pass the ball way more than most first options. Except maybe for Francis and Payton.

I personally dont' think of Garnett as a SuperStar there are only a handful of those.

He is a STAR no doubt, but he is not a FRANCHISE type player. He is not a leader, he is not THE go to guy late in his teams games.

He defers too much late, and does not have a consistant GO TO shot.

Franchise players get it done in the 4th quarter, Garnett is a first 3 quarter star, and a 4th quarter role player.
