Has anybody heard any Astros trade rumors that do not include the bogus post from last night? I don't know anywhere that gives trade rumors and am wondering if the Astros are going to get the extra starter that they need so badly.

can't imagine they'd actually make a trade unless it's for someone they can ultimately sign and keep...not like a Randy Johnson rent-a-player scenario...not with the upcoming strike.

if i were management, i wouldn't make a trade. they virtually no a work stoppage is imminent.

I agree Max...to a point. We should only trade for guys we can keep. But this team NEEDS at least 1 and probably 2 starters. Shane Reynolds is done. He will likely retire very soon due to his now chronic back. Dave Mlicki is a free agent, I say if you can replace him this year let him go.

i don't disagree, refman...but will there be a next year??? would you trade right now with the uncertainty that exists? i wouldn't...not if it were my money.

If we could upgrade the staff, yes I would make a trade. Suppose there is not a strike. That's a possibility. We have an outside chance at winning this year. Solidifying our rotation would greatly enhance those chances.

Julio Lugo for Antenna Ball and a Sourdough Jack to be named later.

I think that the other team gets kinda jobbed on this one. Ball walks a lot and has a high on base % not to mention that the Sourdough Jack is just too damned tasty to have as a throw in.

We need a 3rd baseman and a quality starter.

We could use Hidalgo as trade bait and replace him with Lane from the Minors.

OK.... so that trade might be a bit uneven...

How about Doug Brocail for Antonio Ball....

The nice thing about that trade is that, like Brocail, Ball has no arm - so the Astros really aren't losing anything.

Not only that... we can actually get a player to get on base consistently in the clutch during the playoffs- without going Mama Cass on us.

Yeah, the best fielding ss in the league this year and a decent hitter...we don't need him.

What? Julio Lugo is an average SS at best.

What basis do you have for glossing Lugo as one of the best fielding SS's in the league. Do you remember the NLDS?

    That being said...

I really feel that Antenna Ball could add a lot. He can't run... he can't field... he has a high on base percentage... wait!!! If he puts on 350 pounds, he could be the next Daryle Ward. :D

He has as good range/speed as basically any SS out there, and he (as of a few days ago) leads the league in fielding %. He's not going to make any ridiculously good plays, but he is now better defensively than most SS's out there.

I guess my memory of Julio Lugo will forever be colored by his impression of Mama Cass in the NLDS.

Until he proves that he can handle pressure, I say we throw Ball in the lineup at SS... maybe we can get that Dominican kid. He runs like a cat... :)

OK - I'll concede that Julio Lugo is better at SS...

But what about Fat Daryle ... I never thought that I'd say this but he makes Cecil Fielder look svelt.

Daryle Ward...do they pay that guy in ice cream or something???!!! I distinctly remember once last season when he hit a home run and Dierker patted him on the butt and I read Dierk's lips telling Daryle: "Great job son!! We're going to Marble Slab tonight!!!!" :D

Now that was uncalled for. :) ...and it was Baskin Robbins.

I specifically remember it was Baskin Robbins because, after the attack, the clerk was muttering something about "Godzilla."
