Im not even sure I would trade Yao for Shaq at this point. Yao, will be something special, by himself, but when you add in the other players we really do have something special.

I personally believe that Shaq is slowly on the decline, So if I wouldnt trade for Shaq, then NO I wouldnt trade for the other O'neil either!

Regardless of what any of us feel or believe about Yao Ming's talents and abilities to contribute to our team, the Rockets will likely never trade him. Or at least they will not trade him until he is no longer the most well known and popular China man in the world. Les' head has probably been spinning out of control since the draft lottery attempting to calculate the kind of income he will receive from Yao Ming jersey sales to potentially 1.3 BILLION people!

Not to mention the likely scenario of every road game filled with Asian and other races' Yao fans that give us semi homecourt advantage. :D

Yeah, I think it's pretty funny to watch all the people climbing onto the Yao Ming bandwagon. Half the people on this BBS who are now singing his praises were saying he'd be a total bust and had no basketball skills.

Now, he's been voted the top center at a World Championship where the U.S. team didn't even get 5th place. I think that says a lot about him, and proves that he is a legit prospect, not just some "stiff" as so many posters were calling him just a month ago.

I wouldn't trade Ming for anyone who played on the US team in the World Championships.Griffin has the potential to become as good or even better than J.O'Neal.

intresting but dumb idea. Yao ming right now is better than o'neal will ever be. And yao is a much smarter player than o'neal. If you put Ming on the usa team he would have been the mvp, due to the his number increase he will get since the guards will pass him the ball. But oneal was there and he didn't even put up numbers close to yao, even on a better team with better guards.

    See my point.

man i never thought of that. I can't wait to see some new york, golden state. and los angles. That will boost yao play on the road. It could give us a extra 3-6 wins.

People, as a Rocket fan I appreciate your enthusiasm, but lets be real. You all can seriously sit there with a straight face and say you would not trade Yao for anyone on american team. That is just retarted, granted U.S. did not win it all this go round, we still have the best ballers in the world. You seriously think that Yao would take this team further than Pierce. For that matter O'neil is coming into his own and is proven in the NBA( What did Yao do against him in Wbc?) and Yao has yet to even play a second in NBA. Yao had average numbers at best against anyone above 6'8" in WBC. Dominated teams with no real size. There is not one team in the NBA who does not have at least 1 7' tall center. Not to say Yao will not be good or at least an average center, but to say you would not trade him for Shaq is just retarted. Yao did aveage at best against the good teams in the tournament, and that is weaker competition than he will be going against on a nightly basis in the NBA. Let's be optimistic, but not completely blind and ignorant about him. He is not the savior of B-ball, just another hyped rookie who has yet to prove a thing or even lace them up.

I don't see why your all bein so mean to this guy. Its an honest question. Jermaine O'neal is a player with a lot of skill and potential too. No, i wouldn't do that trade, but hell, i'm not gonna bash a guy that asks my opinion on it. Seriously, lay off just a bit.

Unless the trade was Yao for Shaq, then there would be NO WAY IN HELL that I would trade Ming.....

I guess people feel uneasy about such threads for a simple reason:

How about giving Yao one chance, just one chance to let him acutally play an NBA game, see what he is about in the NBA and then, if you still want to, talk about shipping him off?

Beside, did Yao show anything less than lil Oneal in the WBC? Yao is the center of the tournament despite playing 1 on 5 all the time. Anyone thinks Pau Gasol and Dirk could shoot between 60 - 70% , and put up their respective numbers with the kind of teammates and coach Yao has?

Maybe I'm the one off, but it seems to me that most of the responses missed this newbie's point...I think he was saying that there wasn't anybody on the US team that you WOULD trade Ming for, not even O'Neal, probably the highest rated commodity on the latest Dream Team....Again, I could be wrong.

I thought the same thing at first. But then Jrazz never re-posted to explain him/her self...that makes them a post-and-run troll. Maybe its BTM trying another user name...but then again, its not moron-laden enough for BTM.
