CD called Lakers about the trade of TMac for Kobe, then Lakers prefer to inclde JVG in the trade, the Rox gave up.
your crazy. if tmac didnt play in that stretch when yao was hurt we wouldnt even be goin to the playoffs. Tmac shot is usually off when yao plays i dunno why but he says he has been stiff lately soooooooooooo
Now is not when you hang Tmac for sucking. He still has a chance to redeem himself in the playoffs. If he sucks in the playoffs, make all the trade Tmac threads you want.
Yes...your right, tmac lead the rockets for 32 games. You made my point EXACTLY!! Last time i checked, there were 82 games in a season....can tmac play even 70 games without getting hurt???? Tmac is a real real good player, he's a legit allstar, he's not a great player...but he's making what a great player makes salary wise. Shane Battier makes 5 to 6 mill a yr, you can get 3 Shane Battier level/type players or better than avg players to surround yao for the price of 1 real real good player in tmac. This is what teams such as detroit, san antonio and utah have done. Surround your best player with 2 or 3 other good players instead of 1. Thats all im saying....i understand the love fest with tmac. He's an exciting player, but he cannot be counted on for an entire season. 2 or 3 good players are better than 1 very good player anyday!
I second this motion! Though lately (especially after a loss) there really isnt much of a difference between the posts on the ESPN Boards and this one. Simply put, both are filled with posts screaming, "trade Yao, Tmac" or analysis such as "JVG sucks, Tmac suxxors!" "rafer sucks balls, Yao's a mental midget." etc etc
Some may ask, well who would the rockets trade tmac for....im no gm, im only speaking from common sense. Id rather have a true power forward, pg, and bench around yao. I know ill get criticized for my post, but thats ok. I'd trade tmac to teams such as boston for al jefferson and a #1 pick, or charlotte for okafor and a #1, or well....theres not many options out there, im just citing examples. Of all the teams, id trade with boston for all jefferson...you can have yao at center, jefferson at pf, battier at sf, use the #1 on a pg or sg, and with the extra $ saved, build up your roster. i know when you do trades, the salary has to match within a certain %, so im sure we'd have to take back junk in return. Maybe we can get a 3 way deal for some expiring contracts....like i said, im no gm...but i do know there is a market for tmac, so im sure the rockets can get a package they like if they wanted.
make a thread for trading after the team is knocked off the playoffs. We will see how tmac will play in the playoffs before talking about trade plz
OK, fine, let's play by your rules. Let's say instead of T-Mac you get 2 or maybe even 3 players that are about as good as Shane Battier. First of all, Shane Battier is only a one-per-team guy. We happen to have 2, but most teams only have one of his kind. Actually even Hayes isn't quite the same as Shane, but he's the same type. Hustle, IQ, defense, everything. Shane's got a little more on the offensive end though. I love Shane, and i'm not knocking him at all in this post but... Honestly, what has Yao done to get Shane wide open? What has Shane done on his own to get his own shots? Can Shane create for himself or his teammates? Can Shane make teams pay for doubling Yao? Could 2 Shane's have stepped their game up and kept this team in the playoff race when an MVP candidate goes down on their team? I doubt it. T-Mac draws the double and Shane gets the benefit by getting a wide open shot. T-Mac can dribble the ball very well and he sees the whole court, better than most players in the entire league. T-Mac makes great passes to guys like Chuck, and Shane, and I would say half of their points are a direct result of T-Mac's passes or T-Mac's play. Now lets address the point of Detroit, Utah, and San Antonio. How many rings does Utah have? None. OK, next team. Detroit? They have 5 players all Shane Battier level or above. Who is their 1 really good player they surround with 2/3 Shane Battier type players? San Antonio is the only example where your scenario works but Tim Duncan during his championship years was/is much better than Yao is at doing what is necessary. He is better at sealing his man behind him, he's better at taking the matchup when it's not given to him. He's faster than Yao too, which is REAL advantage over Yao. Also, you can basically consider Tony/Manu better than Shane. Bruce Bowen would be their Shane-like player, and tell me how having 3 of him instead of Tony and Manu would be any good? Also, 1 of their rings is when they had the twin towers. So by my count, and by your example teams, I count only 2 rings in the past 8 years that have 1 star and 2/3 really good role players. The Lakers? Shaq and Kobe. 2 superstars, marginal talent otherwise. 3 rings The Heat last year? Shaq and DWade. 2 superstars, marginal talent otherwise. 1 ring. The Spurs with the twin towers? 2 superstars, marginal talent otherwise. 1 ring. So by my count, it's 5 to 2, with 5 being 2 superstars instead of 1 superstar and 2 good players next to him. And either way, the two rings without another superstar are with both guys that could be considered better than Shane. They can create their own offense when TD goes out. Shane can't really do that when T-Mac goes out. 5 rings to 2 rings. 5 > 2. There is 1 ring where the team had no superstars. Those are the last 8 years. And as for T-Mac not being a great player? What do you consider greatness? And who would you consider great then playing the game today? One more point, If T-Mac doesn't step up his game in the playoffs, then I will agree 2/3 good/pretty good players are better than having him if he can't even step up his game, but do you really expect him to not step up his game? BTW coaching has a lot do with it too. You are talking about Phil Jackson, Greg Popovich, Pat Riley, and (i think with the Pistons) Larry Brown. Those are some of the greatest coaches in NBA history. The last 8 rings belong to them. JVG is not in that pantheon.
Make it crazy, let's trade yao, he makes >12m a year and only had 9 points in the game with Warriors. C.T
Where were you when tracy was playing at an MVP level without yao, somre considerd tracy to be the best player in the game just a month ago. he is not a great player?. as soon as yao comes back, idiots like you(YOF) crawl out of the woodworks.
Even with our injuries we have a good record in the West, the best defense in the league, top lenovo, the 4th best point differential, 6th best apg differential, 8th best rpg differential, AND YOU WANT TO REMAKE THIS TEAM? With roster changes this team has improved greatly over the last 2 seasons and ... so has TMac's back. We're a very very tough team right now and only need some consistency in our shooting. We can beat most teams now and be competitive in the rest with one of our Stars out. WTH else can you ask for? And there's a market for TMac because he IS a great player, not just a 'good' one like you say. Players that you want are good and may improve our consistency but our ceiling is dropped. Few players have the game that allows them to become unstoppable. Suddenly the games becomes 'easy' for all of the teammates. I'd rather take a superstar(s) - who we happen to be lucky to have - and add role players. Players who no team can match up with and must make major adjustments to their gameplan, rotation and possibly even their roster to try to respond. End this nonsense...
TMac is a good player, however, he is not a cruch player any more. He settles for jump shoots all the time when games are at line.
I would consider trading Tmac for the right deal. If the Celtics get the first pick in the draft and Kevin Durant was available, I would consider trading Tmac to them for the rights to Durant. Tmac is a great player, but he seems to lack that burning "Win at all costs" mentality that players need to be really successful in the NBA. That is why you have to surround Yao and Tmac with aggressive players (something CD did, but JVG didn't want them to play Snyder/V-Span). So, unless Tmac because the killer aggressive type A personality we all want him to be..... You would have to consider offers, if it made the team better.... DD
i think durant is 3 yrs away from being a superstar if he does turn into one. he's skinny as hell to dominate at this level. he'll score 14-15 pts in this system but he wont help right away so in that sense you're wasting yao's prime years. if u want to win now and trade tmac, the only way is to get a superstar back in return of his caliber, which you won't get b/c of salary and his back. so realistically, houston won't win regardless. like u say, tmac makes this team. so just hope he's healthy for the playoffs. and if he is, u should have no doubt which tmac will show up. i have never see him really struggle in any playoff game.
We don't need trade Tmac. But his role in the team will go down. It seems those players from high school has some mental or personality problem. The college bb teaches them how to play right and be a leader. I don't remember any team that won the final with a leader from high-school. I am not an expert in NBA history. So just correct me if I am wront. But think of KG, J. Oneal, Kobe. Tmac right now is like David Robinson, very talented but can't lead a team. It's Yao's time to step up. He began to yell at people in Jazz game. Hopefully that's a good start for him to lead the team.
Wow... just wow. As a UT student and a person who has a man-crush on Durant, even I think a T-Mac for Durant trade would be TERRIBLE! You do want to win now right? You do realize we traded Rudy Gay for Batman so we could win now right? This trade would be a complete 180 to our current line of thinking. Thank God you're just a fan. Now, if Durant can pull a Francis and b**** his way down here, I'd be up for that . That would never happen though. KD is too humble and unselfish. Besides, he's coming back next year, especially now that Barnes is back. I can't wait for next season. I'm going to buy season tickets.
I think Durant will be a very special player, and really quickly. Basically I have my doubts about Tmac's ability to lead a team in the playoffs, and his balky back. If they lose in the first round of the playoffs this year, I would be willing to entertain offers to build the team completely around Yao.....which would make him the undisputable leader of the team..... And the biggest thing I beileve this team lacks is leadership on the court. And that IMO, is what is holding the Rockets back. DD
