There's a lot of talk about Tmac hate and the sorts around here lately. It's really not about the hate, it's how we can better utilize the $20million that he's contributing to the team's bankroll. Sure we can have a mediocre Tmac and try to get along with what we have, but still Tmac's taking up $20million!!! With that money we could get 4 average mid-level starters to fill up the roster, or 2 very good players, or any combinations of the above to bolster our team. If we have Tmac, we'll NEVER get a good starting power forward, a decent point guard, a backup center, etc... and still have enough depth on our team. If you want to settle with him being a mediocre or above-average player whose chronic conditions will offset his potentials, fine, but the Rockets will never go anywhere. Case study: Mavericks and Spurs. We always praise their depth, but that's because they don't have a second player with a superstar salary. Tmac = Jason Terry + Josh Howard Tmac = Manu Ginobbli + Tony Parker Salary wise they're the same. Production wise, not even close. Please keep in mind of Tmac's back history for the future. The trend of championship teams nowadays involve one superstar and two stars. The only exception had been the Heats, but that's because they got rip-off deals with some former All-Stars. Another question becomes, do we even a superstar small forward besides the now dominant Yao? Lately Tmac's been valued mostly for his playmaking skills. If we could take his money and split it between a starting-calibur point-guard and an above-average slasher or power forward, then we can really go somewhere. Bottomline, a mediocre Tmac takes up the slot of two very good, specialized players who will expand the dimensions of our teams. Right now we lack talent, but that's because we don't have money. Of course how to get rid of Tmac is a whole different (and very tough) problem in itself. If we could trade him for anything close to equal value while he's going hot, then I'd say go for it. Back problems are back problems.
ground breaking stuff there. he's bad for the rockets because he's getting paid really big bucks and he has a chronic back problem. so why aren't teams lining up to get him? i just don't understand why because every team should want that.
Nobody is going to want Tmac, unless we get VERY low value in return. This should be obvious to anyone. The Rockets franchise is handcuffed until his contract expires.
other teams wouldn't want him for the same reasons you want to trade him. i think the rockets will have to suck it up and make the best of the situation.
I honestly think the Rockets would be lucky to get a little better than what the Sixers' got for Iverson. We'd get maybe ONE decent talent, expiring contracts to match salaries, and a draft pick or two that might not even help. Iverson's situation was different in one sense but similar in many others. Iverson: 1. He's a player who won't be in the league THAT much longer 2. He's a player who's getting payed BIG bucks 3. He's a player that could be potentially cancerous (although I don't think so) McGrady: 1. He's a player who's 'chronically injured' and that injury happens to be a back 2. He's getting payed BIG bucks Iverson's deal was different because he asked for a trade (which he apparently did not) or at least the organization stupidly said he did. Then King tries to cover up the blunder by saying they're in no rush to trade him. Look what they ended up getting. Although T-Mac wouldn't be forced into a trade situation like that, he's injury prone so that makes it even worse than Iverson's. For everyone that wants to trade him after he comes back and gets hot for a few games: Do you really think other teams management (barring Knicks) would be dumb enough to fall into that trap and trade almost equal value for him?? If you can find a deal that brings almost equal value then it makes sense to shop him but good luck with that. Even if he is traded this season, we'd have to find enough expiring contracts to match salaries and then we'd have to wait for the contracts to expire before we have cap room to sign healthy talented role players to play alongside Yao Ming. That is a doubtful situation. Either we stick with him for good and see where his back takes us or we trade him now (maybe at end of season) and wait for this season to be over so the contracts expire. IMO no way we're getting a deal like that so T-Mac stays.
Trade Tmac? how about: Trade mrmrdan for a bag of chips? no, j/k considering that Tmac is my favorite player in the NBA and my second favorite in the history of the NBA after Hakeem, I think we should give him some time to see if he can get better. call me a dreamer, but I really think Tmac's injury this season is not that serious and he will be back to his old self. trading him will not do us any good. we will end up with some overrated scrubs who wont fit into JVG's system and will eventually mess the whole team up. Tmac plays great with Yao. actually: one-legged tmac+Yao > anybody in the league+ Yao just be patient, and have some hope. hopefully Tmac comes back 100% and takes us to the finals.
As much as I lov T, i'd still do this: "Tmac = Manu Ginobbli + Tony Parker" Good deal for both teams.
The answer should not be simple YES or NO. Should take a 'Wait and see' position as things develops, something could turn up. Either Tmac find a way to at least partially justify his salary or some team have some issues which end up approximately equal value to trade him. You never know what you'll get until something postive turns up. Concentrate on protecting and developing Yao and keep an eye on Tracy's development is all I can do for now.
are u kidding me? first of all, I wouldn't do it because I Love Tmac and I would kill myself if I have a flopper who can only drive left along with Eva Longoria's Boyfriend on my team. but think about it, why in heck would the Spurs do it? they won a championship with that team already and they are still going at it. now if Isiah goes to San Antonio and becomes the GM, that's a different story
wow, you say no to this trade? if you are a rox fan, you want this trade because rox will be a contender right away if you are a tmac fan, you want this too, because this will be the best chance for tmac to win a ring it's good for both rox and tmac, but it's too bad for spurs
As r****ded as the idea is (right now), I'll humor you. As many, including myself, have already said, TMac has VERY low value right now. Any team that would trade for Tracy right now, is taking a huge gamble. *IF* you are seriously going to entertain the idea of trading him, better wait till he comes back, plays some games (maybe even till the end of the season as someone mentioned), plays well, and THEN shop him.
i have to agree, but i also have to agree that we won't get what 76ers got in the iverson trade. i doubt any team wants the broken back t-mac with a giant contract.
The Rockets are in the big hole over this because they made three bad judgements. Firstly by getting Tracy when he was damaged goods with a chronic bad back in Orlando. Secondly they had the opportunity to make a trade in the offseason while his condition was in limbo. They [Les Cd & JVG] chose to gamble with the knowledge that with JVGs desire for the stupid WIN NOW policy they should take a chance on Mc Grady. Thirdly, due to JVGs inability to coach developing talent, they traded away a future star for a role player. So now, if there is no way to fix his back, they must clean up the mess which they chose to get the team into.If they are working on it now it's going to take three seasons. That's ok as Yao aged 29 willl be in his prime years as a Center.
I think we can trade him. We would have to take on a crap load of crap contracts because that is what Tmac's value is. He is damaged goods with a max deal. Remember salaries have to match. You would have to be willing to take on players like Jason Collins...lil product, lotta cash. We are screwed...we need to pray for him more than wish him away. This is our only hope. Unless he comes in JVG's office and says..."I cant play anymore, so I thought it would be fair to give back the money I did not earn and scratch the rest of my contract." Not even this could happen...because the players wouldnt let it happen. We are screwed.
