2 misconceptions about Redd. #1- He is 6 ft 6. #2- He is far from as good of a shooter as Allen. Redd is a very good spot-up shooter, but he does not shoot off the dribble like Allen can.
You stole my thunder. I actually mentioned a Cat for Ray Allen trade in a thread before the season even started. Based on this theory, that means that I must have started the rumor. Who knew I had so much credibility??????
Two sandwiches is starting to make sense now. Not that I am for it, but I see why he now worked out for the Rockets. Cracks me up, we now have EG because we traded them a franchise center and now we're taking, if the rumor is accurate, their best player for our backup center.....oh yeah and a shooting guard.
As much as we all like to hope and wish for a deal that would get us Elton Brand, the more I think about this Ray Allen deal the more I think it is not TOO far out in left field as it might initially seem. Like it was said before, with Michael Redd backing up Allen at a much more reduced cost exactly HOW MUCH is lost of Allen is moved? Especially if Mobley is brought in as a 6th man. Plus the Bucks have been having some chemistry problems as of late and I think Allen is a bit tired of Karl. There is friction there! Perhaps Mobley and Cassell would be a good fit chemistry wise for them. And we all know how much the Bucks are looking for a quality center. In the East,Cato could be a poor man's Ben Wallace in terms of rebounding for them. I guess initially this trade idea seemed to good to be true but after thinking about it for a while it is not too far fetched. I still doubt it will happen but it is interesting to think about. Clutch, please do let us know if you hear anything more about this. Thanks! Chris
I agree it doesn't exactly fit our immediate needs, but its rare when you can get one of the league's premiere players (Ok, he's a little off this year, but last year and the year before he was one of the best guards in the league). I think he definitely helps us in two ways though... Jump Shooting - He's got one of the best shots in the game (I think only Peja may have a better shot) Clutch Shooting - At the end of a game I'd rather Ray shooting than anyone the Rockets have right now. I think the Rockets can get a banging low post player in the off-season. While an opportunity like this might not come around again.
It still doesn't make sense because Ray Allen only has 2 years remaining on his contract. Why would they take on more years for lesser players? Maybe they really think Cato is that good and can be a good center in the East?
I can't believe the guy is 6'6", I always thought he was shorter than Allen and I knew Ray was 6'5". Ray Allen is arguably the best shooter in the league. I'm sure people will disagree with this statement, but he was regarded by many as such until last year when Peja won the 3pt. shootout and then the Bucks self-destructed and couldn't make the playoffs.
Just to clarify: I never said they had a deal in place last week. I said I felt very strongly last week they were going to make a deadline deal, given some of the things that were going on, but that financial reality cooled that quite a bit. The Allen thing is just a rumor - could be totally fictional. I really don't know yet.
I have Allen on my NBA2K3 team, he really takes the pressure off of my dominant inside force, EG, after a bit of tweeking to EG's skill set, of course. We need a Ray Allen Song! Hopefully it won't be the blues.
Since tomorrow is the deadline, I guess we can all wait for 24 hours or so to find out. Watch tonight, if Cato, or MoT or Cat have a mysterious illness, you will know something is up. DD
And that's the point. If this deal is in the table, you take it. You can get a banging low post player in the offseason or next year or in two years even. It is all about building the best team for now AND for the future. If you can obtain an all-star caliber shooting guard for an averge shooting guard and a decent back up center. You jump at it! It is all about QUALITY over quantity. Granted it does not solve the power forward situation but it does IMPROVE the outside shooting situation which in turn would improve the offensive. More jumpers made, more assists. I think Rudy would jump at the chance to add QUALITY outside shooters on this team to mix in with Yao's low post game. Hell, Rudy throws Glen Rice out there every night HOPING he can knock down some jumpers. Rudy loves shooters. I have to believe he takes this deal if it is available. Chris
I can just see Jason Collier at his PC right now reading this with his fingers crossed, rubbing the buda, and chanting UMMMMMS until he is blue in the face. Collier could be an adequate 18 minutes a game backup center. DD
How are Allen's ankles holding up? Is this a problem he's just had this season? He's also used to playing fewer minutes than Cat. Of course Cat has been playing too many minutes anyway. Maybe Posey finally gets some minutes at the 2. This is one of those deals out of left field that may actually have something to it. We're used to being surprised around here...
Actually, they ARE dangerously close to the luxury tax (or exceeded it by some) so it would be strange if they made the deal, now that I think about it. I'm afraid we'd need a 3rd team to take some contract money of the Bucks. You could say they're making a run for a higher seeding, but they wouldn't trade Allen to do that. How would you guys feel about this alternative offer that makes more sense for them as a team: Mobley Cato Griffin Moochie for Allen Ervin Johnson Anthony Mason Kevin Ollie We'd be like: Ming/Ervin Johnson MoT/Anthony Mason Rice/Posey/T-Mo Allen/Posey Francis/Ollie The money they take on is slightly less and they get much younger with this deal. We lose youth, and take a bad contract in Mason, but it runs for 3 more years, last year not guranateed, and he may be the right type of player to motivate us. I don't know. What I do know, is that the initial trade doesn't make sense for them as a PLAYOFF team with luxury tax issues. Maybe it's a Mobley for Redd deal, straight up? Who knows.
THAT WOULD BE SWAEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET....we need someone to counter Kobe. Anyways. Ray Allen is the man. We could have 3 All Stars!!! It would wonderful. God. I would join you down Sixth Street. But I think trading Cato makes more sense than Mobley. Our power forwards would be...GRIFFIN AND MORRIS? I guess for the just the rest of the season...but how could they possibly do any better than the bad job we already do against the good power forwards? But Cato leaving....we would not be a great rebounding team anymore. And we wouldn't have any injury. If we give up Taylor...SURE!!! He makes too much money. But he is actually pretty good sometimes. He is our only inside player besides Yao. BUT MAYBE...Yao will start dominating!!! Look at Shaq...the rest of his team is all outside. We wouldn't need a power forward!!! We could be satisfied with a Samaki Walker. RAY ALLEN...nice...... Giving up Mobley?!? SURE!!! I'm positive that Francis would happily accept Ray Allen as his new backcourt partner. But how much does he make?
Sane...your proposal is OK. BUT ANTHONY MASON!?!?!? God..he is terrible. He is slow and can't shoot properly. But he would be a much better ENFORCER for Yao.
