I don't know why you're so intent on trading Mobley KLON, but it's not going to happen. You don't break up one of the best backcourts in the league for unproven draft picks in a weak draft. And it IS a weak draft. There isn't a Shaq, or Kidd, or Hill, or Garnett, or player that is going to offset the loss a key go-to guy like Mobley. Everybody who defends keeping Mobley isn't "Mobley Loyalist", they just know we have something special. Why would you break up a 45 win team with a topnotch backcourt, who is only a few quality big men away from being a serious playoff player by trading away the 2nd best player on the team for unproven draft picks? We won 45 games and would have won 50 plus if Dream were healthy. Imagine having a consisten frontcourt, and a strong offseason to improve the defense and shoring up the SF spot. And you want to throw that away by trading Mobley for unproven draft picks? And again Webber IS NOT coming if we trade away Mobley or Francis. Trading away one of these guys to get Webber defeats the purpose of him coming. And there isn't a person in the draft that can be franchise player and have an impact immediately like Francis did recently. ------------------ "I'm not here to protect my reputation, I'm here to make my reputation! Mama Barkley didn't raise no chumps!" - Charles Barkley
What's wrong with unproven draft picks? None of those teams blew up their team to get those draft picks, like you're suggesting. We had an 11 game turnaround and you want to disrupt that with unproven picks. And those players, Garnett and the other were heralded coming into the draft, nobody even knows who the #1 through #5 picks will be this year because nobody is considered better then the other. As for Mobley/Francis not being any better then those backcourts, they are every bit as good, if not better then the most of the backcourts in the NBA, including the ones you mentioned. But they didn't have experience or help those teams have. I can't believe you're comparing them to Finley/Nash with the help those teams have. Francis and Mobley have only been together for 2 years, and really not that long since Mobley didn't start regularly until later on. Again, why do you think breaking up the core of a 45 win team is good? Why would you rather rebuild with unproven draft picks and turn away FAs who will see this as rebuilding, instead of taking the huge capspace we have and ADDING to a 45 win team? Add the right players and this could be a 50 team. But trading that away for unproven picks!? ------------------ "I'm not here to protect my reputation, I'm here to make my reputation! Mama Barkley didn't raise no chumps!" - Charles Barkley
Cuttino can become an even better player once he becomes more consistent with passing the ball. All Cuttino lacks is learning to settle down and allow a play to develop before jacking up a 25 footer. ------------------
I skipped most of this thread but I see some of you mentioned the obvious: Even if this is all speculation, Mobley will not be traded. At all. Period. No way, no-how, unh-unh. Trade Mobley and you can possibly kiss Francis good-bye too, let alone a shot at Webber and other free agents ("oh, so they convince Cat to play for about 2/3 of his market value and then trade him. Hmmnnnn....) Players love to play for the Rockets but most of these guys are from the East Coast so you've got to keep them happy or they'll go elsewhere. ------------------
klon, webber may or may not come but why dont u mind telling us why u think we have no shot at him and why u seem so intent on breaking up a young dynamic backcourt which got us 45 wins without a good low post presence ------------------ How Sweet It Is! trading mobley wont necessary mean losing francis, but it is a stupid move. especially for a draft pick and miller to drop off cato. considering how our team is primarily the francis & mobley show, we did beat some tough teams including nash and finley's mavs early as well as making larry brown throw a tantrum. furthermore, rockets looking to create mismatches rather than match the shaqs and duncans. sign-n-trade with sac doesn't necessarily mean losing mobley. if c-webb wants to play in houston, rockets get the upper hand. kings could lose him without getting back anything cos of our capspace. and assuming kings wont demand mobley just cos they wanna screw our backcourt, i think they're pretty set at their backcourt too. ------------------
NIKEstrad I didn't say we should trade Mobley for Chicago's #4 pick. What I said is Mobley for #4 pick(with a condition of Cato-Miller trade later.) So, actully we trade Mobley for 1.)#4 pick 2.)B. Miller 3.)S. Anderson 4.)get rid of Cato's contract 5.)cap space to re-sign Hakeem and still able to sign CWebb(or Taylor+Others) "We also do not want bad publicity. Cat signed with us below market value....." ----Hydra "Francis will bolt the first chance that he could, because we screwed up a good thing..." ----RocksMillenium You guys have to understand everything in this league is about business. Taylor and Anderson all signed with us below market value but when you compare them to CWebb & Mobley you guys treat them like trash. I won't blame you about that because that's the real world. I believe Francis is smart enough to understand that. RocksMillenium, I was just giving an example. Diop & Johnson is the worst case we can have at #4 & maybe #9(assuming we trade up #13+#18=#9). we can have Curry+Gasol or Curry+Battier or Griffin+Diop or Chandler+Diop or whatever, but realistically White at #4 and Diop at #9 are what in my mind. The reasons CWebb considering Houston: 1.)Francis 2.)Max contract and no state tax 3.)a winning team and still improving 4.)Entertainment(compare to Sac-town) the Cat is not a reason! "1st off if we sign and trade for cwebb, it wont involve mobley, cwebb wouldnt be that stupid,we have other pieces if necessary like mo,shandon,kt to involve" ----DVauthrin DVauthrin, please stop using Taylor and Anderson as your trade baits. They're FREE AGENTS. and what makes you believe the Kings will agree to pay Taylor & Anderson $12M to help CWebb and the Rockets? "what is all this? i leave for a month..and come back to find junior members thinking that we should trade cat for a draft pick?!?!?! WTF is this BS? " ----Elie#17 you sounds like you are the man here and junior members should know nothing about basketball...that's BS! ------------------ Yes I'm new here
KLON-Actually, we would have to renounce Hakeem, Bullard and Shandon or Mo. Bullard will resign for the vet. minimum (1 mill later). We'd be far enough under the cap if we resign Hakeem for ~4.5 mill. If we sign CWebb, Mo being renounced is almost a foregone conclusion, unless we unload Cato or Walt for nothing (cap). Check Achebe's thread from a few weeks ago, where we determined our cap situation. All indications are that Shandon is gone. As I've stated many times before. Moochie counts for ~650K unrenounced. He will not need to be renounced, and we have EBR on him. Hard Rock-I wasn't referring to anyone in particular. I wouldn't do that anyhow. Why go through all that for Battier? We'd have to get someone who in return can immediately replace Cat's offense, as well as other parts (ie- Richard Hamilton). ------------------ "I think alot of people find Cato's game to be very offensive." -aelliott, comparing the offensive skills of Kelvin Cato and Michael Olowokandi
i realize mo and shandon are both fa, thus theyd have to agree-mo id think would be a possibility, shandon i doubt but we have other things we can deal-like the picks plus sacto wont get much back for webber anyway-he wont screw over his new team ------------------ How Sweet It Is! How Sweet It Is! Gene Peterson on the rockets winning the 1995 championship over the Orlando Magic
i mean if we had to i dont see why mo wouldnt consent the kings could pay him what he wants since losing webber gives em cap room, but normally most sign and trades of this magnitude dont need a lot of players because its the players choice, which is how this one will be done ------------------ How Sweet It Is! Here most of you guys almost made me feel guilty for being Open to a Mobley trade to improve trade when he signed "below market value"... When there's Shandon and Maurice, who all of us will be willing to dump if a better player came along. Mobley Loyalists, and those open to trading him are all the same...Rockets fans. ------------------
taylor and anderson signed a short contract with us hoping to have a breakout season and sign for a long term bigger ($/year) contract for either the rockets or whoever. we're willing to let mo and shandon go (not dump) is because they didn't really had a big impact on the rockets games. shandon especially is looking forward to get out of our system. mo could be looking forward to returning but he knows we're after webber and he too like shandon wants a long term big contract, which the rockets management might not think he's worth. reason why we're keeping mobley instead of shandon and motaylor is because he's that impactful playing for the team, not because he's steve's buddy. give him some credit for earning his place. and personally at times mobley plays better than francis (please let us not get into this one). oh and cwebb has said many times that its the rockets backcourt, and never just francis that makes him interested. elie#17 - see what happens when you leave for a month ?! next week KLON's raising the issue why we should trade francis for next year's rookies. ------------------
fba34- Is Elie17 your daddy? You're a junior member too? That doesnt make you or me any less of a Rockets fan. I just never had the time to post until recently this summer. ------------------
dont take it personal. and you dont have to explain why you're a junior member. as do i i could've easily meant it as a jibe at how elie#17 thinks members with 500 messages run the place, where 495 could've been just about trades like this thread. actually i think elie#17 was just playing around. as was i. ------------------
Maurice signed with us as an extended try-out, and because there was no where else he could get more money. He did not sign below market value, because his market value was the $2.5 million exception. Everyone thought that Anderson also signed at below-market value. Turns out thats about what he's worth, maybe a little too much. There is no way we can get fair market value for Mobley, what we get in return will not be as good on the Rockets as Mobley is - Mobley scores in bunches and creates open shots for his teammates by drawing double teams. Plus he's clutch. That's an important aspect of his game, you give him the ball in the last few minutes and I have confidence he will deliver. You don't run across players that are that clutch every day, it would be folly to trade one away. Finally, we could kiss our chances at Webber, or any other free agent goodbye. The only reason the Rockets are even being considered by Webber is because of the promise in our backcourt, which includes both Steve and Cat. In conclusion, we will never get fair market value for Mobley, and I believe it will be an enormous step back. ------------------ "I always thought it was something that went around my house" - World B. Trade Mobley??? Dude that would be like splitting the Atom. ------------------ "We make more, but we spend more." Patrick Ewing [This message has been edited by Drewdog (edited June 18, 2001).]
i agree with Drewdog. if we trade cat, steve may want to leave to that team when he is a free agent ------------------
It's amazing when someone disagree with trading a player that player is a "loyalist", "lover", or "apologist". No, I just don't want to go your route and break up a 45 win team that is one extra solid post player away from being a 50 win team. For the life of me, I don't know why you're intent on trading Mobley KLON. And how does breaking up a backcourt that won 45 game without a consistent chemistry from the frontcourt going to make us better? Especially when we have the capspace to GET those big men upfront. Instead you want to trade Mobley for draft picks. Oh well, whatever floats your boat I guess. ------------------ "I'm not here to protect my reputation, I'm here to make my reputation!
