I believe to improve our offense we need a player like Manny Ramirez from the Red Sox. I think our management should target him this offseason.
very interesting game plan. who could refuse such an in-depth and well thought out strategy such as the one you've provided here? you've clearly done your research and have exhausted all possibilities. i say let's do it.
How about Bagwell, Astacio, Wheeler, SP prospect for Manny? Astros shed Bagwell's salary for offensive production, move Berkman to 1st. Red Sox use home-grown Bagwell at DH, get some cheap young talent at other positions.
I'm probably the only one, but if we're spending 20 mill or however much he costs, I want someone who can hit the ball but also play some D...
Actually, nobody is going to trade for Manny unless the Red Sox eat a SIGNIFICANT portion of his contract. Also, Manny has his own preferences on where he wants to end up... and the only NL teams mentioned so far have been the Mets and the Diamondbacks.
Manny would be a cancer on a club like ours. And the Astros certainly don't need a high priced slugger. They need a solid impact player w/ a clutch bat, a role player of sorts. Someone of the Damon or Furcal breed I would think.
i thought he turned down a deal to the Mets because he didn't want to play in NY. that was reported in the whole ramirez/beltran trade scenario.
as great as he is...he isn't worth the trouble. i don't think the ownership is willing to take a guy like him, they've always looked for good players and good people. he only fits one of the those categories. and i wouldn't give up burke or wheeler for him.
I know... I was just stating which teams had even been mentioned as a possibility... and all-in-all, I don't see the Astros being very high on his PR-concious, high-profile radar.
Why do you consider Manny not a good person? What has he done that has made you say, "wow, what a bad person" ?
