I'm usually pretty good at this, but I could definitely use some advice. I'm doing decently (2-1) in a 12-team league, putting up good point totals. It's a fairly basic league ... 6-point touchdowns passing/running/catching, 1 point for every 50 passing yards, 1 point for every 20 rushing or receiving. You start every week 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 RB-WR, 1 WR-TE. My roster: RBs: Frank Gore, Marshawn Lynch, LaMont Jordan, Kevin Jones and DeShaun Foster QBs: Donovan McNabb, with Eli Manning backing him up. WRs: Chad Johnson, Santana Moss, Vincent Jackson, James Jones TE: Jeremy Shockey DEF: Vikings There are teams in need of RB help, and it "looks" like my strength right now. So my question -- I've been verbally offered both of these deals: 1. Donovan McNabb and LaMont Jordan for Peyton Manning. 2. LaMont Jordan for Torry Holt. Holt is usually explosive, but is a little scary right now (the Rams entirely). I'm not sold on McNabb, though he was incredible on Sunday. Which offer looks better to you? Or do you pass on both (meaning you don't trust Kevin Jones or DeShaun Foster to play every week)?
Pass on both. The Rams are terrible and it's not going to get better. With Orlando Pace out, they can't pass or run. Plus, Jordan is on fire. You don't trade a player, even if he's going to sit on the bench, that's putting up that many points. It's only going to help the other team. If you can do Foster or Jones for Holt, then I'd make that deal. You wouldn't be giving up anything other than a RB that is splitting carries. McNabb is going to put up good enough numbers, in combination with Jordan, that you should not make that deal, either. The first 2 weeks were more of an abberation for McNabb than the norm.
Thanks leroy420 ... interesting, both people I ran the Peyton deal by theoretically said they wouldn't do it if they were the current Peyton owner. I thought that would win out. I'm not sure I'd have the guts to offer DeShaun or Jones straight up for Holt, and not sure it would pass approval. Maybe one of them coupled with Santana Moss or Vincent Jackson? LaMont Jordan does look great again so far, but Dominic Rhodes is coming back in a few weeks I think too. Not sure if that would impact Jordan or not.
I'd consider the Manning trade - McNabb is a huge scorer when healthy but what are the odds he stays healthy and Lamont Jordan may or may not keep his starting job when Dominic Rhodes comes off of suspension in week 6 - Maybe ask to have a receiver thrown in.
Do not give up Jordan (your best RB) unless you get a better RB in return. The only thing you need is a 3rd reciever, IMO. stay away from Holt.
Jordan is good, but tends to wear down as the season progresses and Rhodes will be back after this next game (Miami) At that point Kiffin will definitely start using him more (Along with Fargas as well) which could create more of a RBBC approach. Holt's value is low right now but he always been a solid and consistent fantasy performer. In fact the Rams looking shaky might be a good thing since they'll be trailing a lot more and will look to air it out. I'd do that trade since You are thin at Wideout.
I'd take both of these trades, McNabb and Eli are inconsistent and Peyton is a monster. Jordan is also inconsistent, Holt is a elite #1. I think Holt and the Rams offense will eventually get back on track. Your lineup will look much stronger if you make these trades. QB - Peyton RB - Gore/Lynch RB/WR - Moss WR - Johnson/Holt TE - Shockey DEF - Vikings - You should try to get a better defense Other than that, your team will be putting up big numbers. You don't start a kicker in this league?
You guys rule -- thanks for the responses.... but damn, I'm more unsure now than I was before I started the thread I'd hate to think Jordan could end up the best back of the bunch in the end (hoping Gore gets going) ... but I watched that Eagles-Redskins game 10 days ago, and McNabb looked rough. Maybe I'll try Foster-or-Jones + S. Moss-or-V.Jackson for Holt. Just curious -- which player out of V. Jackson/ S. Moss do you think is the one needing to be replaced? They both seem like good WR3s to me... I really need a higher quality WR2.
Vikings are the #1 defense in our league so far. Their run defense is insane... but passing needs some work. We do start a kicker ... I have Matt Stover.
I would the Peyton deal. Manning has been an elite fantasy player for years and you know exactly what he is going to give you every single week. Giving up Jordan is a lot since he is playing very well right now but you never know what you're gonna get out of Raider players. Peyton is consistent, which is the best thing in head to head matchups.
I wouldn't do either deal. McNabb/Jordan for Peyton is a solid deal...IF you have RB depth to back it up. But you'd be left with Gore (somewhat injury risk) and Lynch (rookie RB...they almost always wear down, esp. if they're the lone guy getting carries). That leaves you no depth for bye weeks or injuries. I don't see Kevin Jones worth much really at this point...I'd wait for him to have a good week and try to sell him if possible at all. But he shares with Tatum Bell AND he's in a ridiculously pass-happy offense on a team that will get down a lot of the time and be forced to pass regardless of what they want to do. Foster is decent, but you really never know with the RB situation there.. I guess if you trust him, then go ahead and make the deal. But I don't. Torry Holt...yeah, his questionable knee along with STL's offensive line, Steven Jackson being out, Isaac Bruce and Drew BEnnett having injury issues, etc... I'd stay away Maybe try and deal McNabb and Jordan for a solid QB along with an RB...
A big part of success in fantasy is knowing when to sell high. I think both of those deals would help your team. You already have good RBs so Jordan is expendable. I would definitely take the Holt for Jordan deal straight up. I think McNabb/Eli is a fine QB situation, so I would stick with that. However, I wouldn't think you were an idiot for making the trade for Peyton. Especially if you could get him to throw in a defense upgrade. Good luck.
The other owner is actually more interested in a (DeShaun Foster-or-Kevin Jones) + (Santana Moss-or-Vincent Jackson) for Torry Holt deal than the others. He hasn't said which ones he wants. I appreciate everyone posting their advice -- thanks.
I just need advice here... Javon Walker hasn't practiced all week. I've got Bernard Berrian with Griese at QB going against the terrible Lions secondary. I think I've got to go with BB. Also, does anyone think Ron Dayne could have a good game against ATL (giving up 142 yds/gm rushing)? I'm debating starting him as well over Jamal Lewis against Baltimore.
I think I'd make both of those trades. The first one would make you a powerhouse. I'll trade you Manning for D&D access.
I'm getting that feeling that I will regret passing on Manning, but we officially worked DeShaun Foster and Santana Moss for Torry Holt. I know Holt's Rams look weak, but I'd much rather have Holt than Moss and Foster isn't going to play on my team (atleast not right now). The opportunity cost will hurt if McNabb starts to suck again, but I'm good with this deal. Thanks to everyone for the advice... I appreciate it.
Try to get Plaxico Burress instead of Terry Holt. Im in a 8 team league and have both of them actually and I got Chad Johnson.
