Houston trades: PF Kenny Thomas (13.9 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 1.9 apg in 34.5 minutes)
PG Tierre Brown (3.3 ppg, 0.8 rpg, 1.7 apg in 10.4 minutes)
Houston receives: SF Ron Artest (15.6 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 2.8 apg in 30.4 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -1.6 ppg, -2.7 rpg, and -0.8 apg.

Chicago trades: SF Ron Artest (15.6 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 2.8 apg in 30.4 minutes)
Chicago receives: PF Kenny Thomas (13.9 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 1.9 apg in 40 games)
PG Tierre Brown (3.3 ppg, 0.8 rpg, 1.7 apg in 23 games)
Change in team outlook: +1.6 ppg, +2.7 rpg, and +0.8 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to Houston and Chicago being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Chicago had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

NO WAY IN HELL WOULD BULLS TRADE ARTEST FOR KT AND BROWN...ARE U CRAZY?

IF U HAD ARTEST..WOULD U GIVE HIM UP FOR A DECENT FORWARD AND A SCRUB BACKUP PG AT BEST?

NO WAY. First off, Artest is Chicago's best player currently. Second, Chicago has a traffic jam of PF's with Chandler, Fizer, Oakley, Curry (sure he might play center but he could play PF) And lastly, Tierre Brown is a CBA player and a 3rd string pg at best. He is not better than Guyton.

Uh huh, hiyah, I'm Jerry Krause. Golly jeez, are you crazy? I would trade Ron Ron in a second for that star power forward down in Houston! Sure, Artest is a great defender, court player and 3-point shooter, but anyone who passes up a youngin' that dunked on Antonio Davis...man, I want him. I need to add him to my plethora of power forwards. Wow...Kenny Thomas, Chandler, Curry, and Oakley. That's one tan-tantalizing 4 position. And Moochie Norris...well that's like adding Jason Kidd to a trade involving Chris Webber. We need young talent in the great town of Chicago...Oakley alone raises our average age by 14.4 years! Hell, we've proven we can beat the Lakers, now all we need to do is get to the Eastern conference finals and we're set! But Kenny Thomas and Moochie Norris with that exciting hair are the last pieces to the puzzle. Now I just need Rudy to call me and ask me about the trade! Yesh! World Champs 2003 baybaaaaay!

Come on, it's Jerry Krause! What do you expect?!

I think Kenny Thomas is the player about whom there seems to be the greatest discrepancy in evaluation...Some fans on here keep suggesting him in trades for, IMO, significantly better players, and it would seem that fans of other teams are also largely unimpressed...

Kenny Thomas has done nothing but improve every year, plays hard ball, and works his butt off at a position he is undersized for, but yet every post with a trade scenerio has Kenny shipped off.

I will stand alone on this one. I do not want to trade Kenny Thomas. No he is not the prototype PF, but the guy simply plays good hard bball... especially to be in a offensive system with only one play.

you know what? I wanted Artest as a good backup sf/sg. I wanted him because he was a good defender and his trade value was low.

Right now we have a pretty good back up sf/sg in Oz. Artest's trade value may be a lil too high now.

    I'd rather just keep Oz.

why everyone is so high on Artest anyway ?
he plays in a crappy team ,and it's not that hard to dominant.
he's the only player who plays defense in that team ,and lately the only one to score....put him in any other team and u won't get much.

remember ,Mercer is (or was till lately) they best scorer.

artest is really athletic, decently smart

and i think even was 2nd in the league in steals per 48min last year... behind mookie blaylock?

he can also run the break better... there are enough intangibles and defensive abilities in this guy to consider him over a lot of guys

A lot of people were saying things like this about Brand, but his performance hasn't dropped off, now that he's in the west facing all the big bad PF/C's that are here. Just because a player is on a crappy team, doesn't mean he's not a legitimate ball player.

btw, i just read this on the sportingnews by sean deveney... i like the guy's stuff and he says this very well... something about christie that is true for artest as well and what artest could bring to the rocks

***David: I would rank Christie as the best defensive guard in the NBA, though guys like Kobe Bryant, Gary Payton and Jason Kidd might argue. It shows you how one player can transform a whole team's defensive mindset (look at Kidd in New Jersey, for example). The Kings were the worst defensive team in the league before they got Christie. If you have a committed, aggressive, smart defender on the floor, it spurs the players around him to play better defense.

No. Kenny only goes for a C or a really good SF (and then only if Rice can be unloaded too).
