this thread really got me thinking (solid thread by the way) http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=150291 Tmac's deal is up after 2010. What do you think the Rockets will do in regards to Tracy? Walk away and enjoy the cap room to go after a big ticket FA? Sign him to a short term deal? Sign him to a long term deal? Trade him away near the end of next season as an expiring deal? I kind of see them holding on to him maybe signing him to a 3 year 27 million dollar deal. My friend thinks I am nuts and think Tracy is worth 7 million a year. He is only 29 now but has a lot tread missing on his tires. What do you all think?
I think Rockets would try to get another superstar if Tracy and Yao duo experiment is still failing until 2010.
In 2010 TMac is done unless he signs for a team that is a major candidate to get a championship regardless if it is the Rockets or another team. I just don't see a 34 year old TMac having the ability to with stand an NBA season at that time in his career considering all the problems he has now. At 34 TMac will never see the Basket any closer than about 10 feet away as he will be no more than a jumb shooter at that time. Hell he is almost a full time jump shooter now. He still has the ability to attack the basket and does it quite well but he just does not have the desire or stomach to relentlessly attack the basket any more.
um, tracy has said he knows he's entering the last 2 yrs of the contract and if he doens't do well this yr (or the team), his contract is not gonna be extended (which will either or won't after next yr) when he has one more year left. so assuming he's playing for a new contract, he'll get more at another place. if he knows he can get more money, he's not gonna settle. no athlete will unless they're already broken down and can only play 10-15 mins a game. with that said, if we're in the same position, don't resign him. use that money and try to get lebron/wade.
yep unless of course he is kicking ass at 34 but I just don't see it. I just don't think he has many good years left. I would love to fleece some team like the Nets did to the Mavs with Jason Kidd. Besides I remember TMac saying when he signed his current contract that he did not believe he would play beyond the contract. But of course with TMac you never know.
i don't know, tmac knows if he doesn't play well after these 2 years, this is the last contract he's going to see. plus, he won't be 34 by then, he will be 32. he's 29 right now going on 30. therefore, you can expect tmac to put together his 2 best seasons as he can right now trying to earn another contract. if he fine tunes his jumper and post game, a player like tmac can extend his career for a long time.
For the appropriate salary he can stay forever, but most sports stars don't accept their own declining worth cough*Hakeem*cough
