The all-star player from the Los Angeles Lakers again has the most popular jersey in the NBA, based on jersey sales at the NBA Store in New York and at NBAStore.com from the start of the 2006-07 NBA season through Dec. 31, 2006. Bryant, who had the most popular jersey during the 2002-03 season, regained the lead from the Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade, who held the top spot since May 2005. Wade is now second on the list with LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers third and Allen Iverson (who had been with the Philadelphia 76ers during the sales period, but is now with the Denver Nuggets) fourth. Bryant’s Lakers remained No. 1 on the league’s most popular team merchandise list for the fifth consecutive season, while the NBA champion Heat are second. Sales figures were not released. The NBA Store had its strongest sales quarter in history in the fourth quarter of 2006 including the best November sales ever and the largest single sales month ever during December 2006, per the league. This season marks the first with adidas as the official on-court uniform and apparel provider for the NBA. TOP 15 PLAYERS 1. Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers 2. Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat 3. Cleveland Cavaliers 6. Boston Celtics 7. Denver Nuggets 8. Philadelphia 76ers 9. New Jersey Nets 10. San Antonio Spurs -------------------------------------------------- Disappointed to not see Yao in the top 15 or the Rockets in the top 10. Who the heck wants a Stephon Marbury jersey?
Haha, I have Dwade, Agent Zero, and AI's Denver jerseys on my list of jerseys to buy. I can understand Tim Duncan being in the top 15 players, but how are the Spurs in the top 10 teams? Do people really like their jerseys??
I want an Agent 0 jersey as well that guy's awesome. I have too many jerseys, too bad they're only of 2 guys. Yao and McGrady. I have 5 of McGrady and 4 of Yao. Home, Away, Black/White, Throwback for both and an Orlando jersey for T-Mac on top.
The NBA has to keep better data than this. They've been going solely on internet sales at NBA.com and the NYC NBA store for years. That's like what 20% of the total market? Maybe 5%? There are NBA jerseys for sale at so many department stores, specialty stores, online retailers, and overseas. The articles that come out every year referring to these numbers are always so pointless.
i can't believe vince carter is still so popular and it's not just the jersey sales. i mean a new jersey nets jersey? then again new york is close by.
Yeah so these numbers are pretty pointless, it's only on NBAStore.com and the NBA store in NYC. Doesn't really accurately reflect the overall popularity of the player jerseys because the sales data would be much different if the NBA Store was in Houston instead of NYC. They should just find a way to get all the jersey sales from around the nation and put data out on that, only way to accurately reflect something such as this.
this is really weird! am I crazy? or was McGrady #2 in the 04-05 season after Shaq? if not #2, I am sure he was top 5.
The jersey sales figures are skewed in favor of the east teams. NY is the only place where Starbury and Vince Carter outsells Yao and T-mac.
