Fire Alderman and hire this guy. He knows the secret to turning a 3-10 team into an over .500 one! How did you not think of that Rick?
That's funny, because JVG said that if you can force a team into taking a contested, long 2-pointer (and then rebound the miss), you've done your job as a defense. That was basically his core defensive philosophy.
Durvasa, I guess it depends on what you call contested. Good scorers can make 17ft mid range shots like layups because of the space they create. The truly gifted scorers throughout history were mid range guys. Even if a guy is there,he really isnt if that makes any sense. Look at it this way, when grant hill was in his prime he never shot 3's. He could always get to his spot and pull the trigger. Even if i use a guy like Rip Hamilton, he was a deadly mid range guy. Thats why for so long he was always around 45% fg. 3pt fg's only says you have the range, not whether or not you're a good shooter. I know the formula about how i can go 6-12 and you can go 4-12 from 3 and its the same. I just dont like when all your scoring is based on hitting a 23-9 shot. I think you should be multiple in your scoring no matter who you are.
You can't be scared to make contact dude, just look at Tmac, he use to be so explosive then got injured, now he won't even drive to the basket, in result, Tmac won't be in the league much longer and if Kmart takes your advise he won't neither. Kmart hasn't been this healthy sinse about 2-3 seasons ago, take advantage and play agressive Kmart!
I think the 3-point shot is really important, but there is an advantage in having players who can create shots in the midrange. Its not the ideal shot you want to take, but when you force the defense to guard you from that range it can open up better shots at the basket or at the 3-point line. Also, good defense will make it difficult to get open 3s or points in the paint on important possessions. You need to have the flexibility to hurt them from midrange as well.
I think the three point shot is important. The Rockets just aren't shooting the three particulary well so far.
I've heard Adelman say it many a time. If you pass on a good look it's almost as bad as a turnover. Because now the team has to try and get another good look with a lot less time on the shot clock. I can understand not wanting to take so many pullup 3s on the break. But when in the set offense and the ball swings to a wide open 3 point shooter, you gotta take it.
Thats what I'm saying and this is where the rockets and teams in the league has failed alot also. The 3pt shot is important, but its more important in college with the size disadvantages. The mid game is a great tool and the old schoolers used to kill it. Even guys like mullin who was a great shooter from 3, but he could handle the ball and create space inside 20 ft that was almost like a layup. The rockets have alot of guys dependent on hitting a low fg% shot.
I agree. My god Kyle Lowry is a horrid shooter. He should not be allowed to shoot the ball beyond 15 feet. And yet still some of you think he should start. SMH.
if you've noticed rick has been giving more minutes to the bench because they have been playing well.
If your wide open take the shot don't hesitate.chase, martin, lowry, ish, battier are decent three point shooters but when they get open they miss there shots
If the Rockets are one of the worst three point shooting teams in the league, why is this still a problem? Why are they still jacking up so many threes. The missing of threes is killing us damn near every game now. This is ridiculous!! 9-23 against Dallas the other night.
