It's up to Morey and Les now. Will Morey stop the dictatorship? Will Les eat that Mchale contract? I doubt both will happen.

Tom Thibodeau never had one single season as a head coach with less than 45 wins. His best player, Rose, was injured pretty much every season he was there except his first year. He took the Bulls to the Eastern Conference Finals his first season and lost to one of the best teams in NBA history, the Miami Heat. He never once missed the playoffs.

I'd say you're nuts if you don't think Tibs is a top 5 head coach, and absolutely top 10. He's a stud with a proven track record.

But some other team will snatch him this offseason, and the Rockets will continue their poor play, keep McHale until the All-Star break, promote Bickerstaff, keep sucking, miss the playoffs, Dwight will opt out, Durant will go to Washington, and we'll be left once again with nothing but Harden and some decent bench guys.

Or we could fire McHale while the season is still young, hire a coach that has proven he can turn teams around quickly (look at his first season with the Bulls), and take this team to the playoffs and possibly the Finals.

    I'll take Option B.

In your opinion, if not Thibs, who would be your Top3 candidates to replace McHale today?
Just looking for more options myself ... and having a hard time even starting up a list beyond him and JVG

    And only those AVAILABLE

...we can't wait 10-20 more games to make a decision on this - by then it's very possible the season will be a lost cause that no coach can salvage. If we want any chance at making some noise in the playoffs, we HAVE to make a change now and Thibs has to be the coach.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Spam Morey on Twitter. Even if he's not posting, the guy is a Twitter w****. He's always on the damn thing. He needs to be bombarded with calls by the fans to fire McHale.

If an uprising by the fans, the team being booed at home, isn't enough to make him make a change at Head Coach, then I'm done.

I've got 2 reasons I disagree with you:
    - he employed Thibs as a coach until 2007
    - Harden has repeatedly credited Thibs with his MVP play last year

To me Morey's 2 biggest problems to solve are:
    - consistent DEF intensity every player every game
    - finding MVP Harden again

Those could arguably be Thib's 2 greatest strengths as a potential Rockets coaching candidate

I doubt it will work. The mist of Mt. Olympus is hard to penetrate. The mist works as a shield and a drug that only makes X person feel higher. If only we could reach Zyzz.

The east until this year was crap and you got one thing right. Thibs was the champion of Regular Season because his players grinded but when it came to the playoffs where scouting in game adjustments and plays were required he always dissapointed.

If you think Thibs is top 5 coach in the nba tell me WHY he is a better coach than SVG, Stevens ,Kidd ,Snyder, Rivers etc?
What does he bring to a team except from practising his players to play defence and grind during the RS?
And if you notice with the use of ICE all around the league his defensive shemes are not some top secret anymore, most teams use them freely.
Morey doesn't pay the bills. Firing coaches and eating years of contract is not up to GMs the owners have to be involved and its their ultimate decision.

Malakas - same question to you ...

Let's not evaluate Thibs or anybody in a vacuum for this job ... of those realistically available, who would be you Top 3-5 candidates to coach this team today?

If we all (mostly) agree that McHale needs to go asap, and you don't want Thibs, who are the better options out there you prefer?

Just don't really see the point in comparing any candidate to gainfully employed current NBA coaches ...

No way. No dead end coaches please. Why would you hire someone when you know that it will 100% end with "he didn't allow the offense to flourish, drove his players into the ground".

McHale has been yelling at these guys to play hard for years now and that's it, it's over, it has become background noise for these guys. You can only motivate people by yelling for a certain amount of time, and you should only resort to it in desperate, critical situations.

Thibs is the type of coach who will keep pushing his guys and if he doesn't win it one or two years in, it just gets sour after that and the culture deteriorates. There's no place for that kind of coaching in the league anymore. He's an excellent coach but he doesn't have the ability to get a player to motivate themselves - which is the most sustainable way to get people to keep pushing and improving without their eardrums being worn out.

Thibs is a good enough coach to win a championship

Even if Thibs is forced to run Moreyball and offense never changes.. Elite defense would make us title contenders

Two months with Thibs had harden playing the best basketball of his career. JUST TWO MONTHS. TWO. On both ends. I can't believe morey is just sitting there not even looking at him.

Would Durant want to play for Thibs?

There's no reason James can't take what he learnt in those two months and apply them now the way he did last season.

I understand your point, but there's a certain element of laziness to what Harden is doing. He's a paid professional, there should be no reason for laziness.

Now, if you're talking about the potential Harden can reach defensively with Thibs then that's a different story but Harden still has to want it, which he says he does.

Neither one of these guys would do that. I think they would both want to be head coaches.
