Big Big Big props to Timmah for his outing yesterday against one of the best offensive clubs in the NL right now. That's exactly the kind of arm the kid has, he just needs time to develop & learn to pitch on the ML level. All his problems are between his ears - if he ever masters the mental aspect of the game, he will dominate.
Yes, I did indeed mean Castilla from this year. But even if you take Castilla's numbers from last season, Morgan isn't far off. Ensberg---- .279 avg, .355 OBP, .412 SLG Castilla----- .270 avg, .320 OBP, .492 SLG Ensberg gets on base more often than Castilla, Vinny hit with more power. However, judging by the power Ensberg displayed in the past, many believe his power numbers will increase, and he already has better strike zone judgement and patience than Castilla.
the thing with castilla was that he made alot of sweet plays at third base last year. morgan's not a liability but he isn't as smooth defensively. but as far as bang for the buck goes we have a much better deal with ensberg.
I agree. Morgan is not quite as steady as Castilla was, but he has made some spectacular plays so far this season. Even at the same salary I'll take Ensberg and his plate discipline every day of the week and twice on doubleheaders.
Its been a while since I checked, but Ward has an incredible hits/(AB-K). Not a very useful stat unless you look at it as what could happen if he was able to reduce his K's without hurting his hits.
Agreed. But , there is no salary cap in baseball, so why should we care about bang for the buck? Overall production is what we should worry about.
true, there's no actual salary cap but the astros aren't exactly the yankees or dogers here, so they have to look at spending money as wisely as possible. if we had a larger budget i'm sure castilla and alou would both be here, but i doubt we'd have any more wins than we do. i agree with raven though, even at equal price ensberg's patience at the plate probably wins over for me. he's esecially looked really good since going back to his regular stance.
